Pokemon Go’s “impossible” Shadow Legendary Raids desperately need revamp

As a dedicated Pokemon Go player with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Shadow Raids have proven to be quite the challenge, even for seasoned trainers like myself. The enraged Boss mechanics and local-only restrictions make these battles feel like a dance with a particularly feisty Charizard.

Shadow Raid encounters in Pokémon Go are quite formidable due to the agitated Boss Pokémons and the lack of ability for remote battles. These aren’t simple challenges to conquer, and there’s a segment of the gaming community who believe they could use an update or redesign.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that unlike typical Raids, when facing off against the Shadow Boss, its attack and defense powers surge, making it significantly tougher. This isn’t just a battle for my high-damage Pokémon; it’s a team effort where many trainers need to join forces to defeat this enraged beast.

In the current game meta, Shadow Legendaries stand out for their enhanced offensive capabilities, which come with a trade-off: a decrease in durability by 20%. Despite being less resilient than their standard counterparts, they excel in dealing high damage, making them top choices as attacking units.

These species are greatly sought after by fans, but due to limitations on Raids, it’s challenging for trainers to find enough participants to defeat the Boss.

During the Shadow Lugia Weekend event that took place from August 10 to 11, 2024, one participant, Reddit user ‘average_airsofter2’, was unable to locate any other players. To add insult to injury, they were also unable to invite their in-game friends because these Raids could only be fought locally.

If Remote Raid Passes were permitted, it might resolve the problem. This change would facilitate locating additional participants for defeating the challenging Shadow Boss, rather than rushing to battle sites and discovering that no one is available nearby.

An additional hassle comes in the form of unpredictable Shadow Raids, during which the Boss suddenly appears for a quarter-hour stretch. This is quite different from typical Raids where the Raid Boss stays for 45 minutes. The problem has become so severe that players have labeled these encounters as “unmanageable.”

One trainer suggested, “You should be able to participate if you can locate the gym on the map.” This way, players can discover where and when Raid events are taking place, making it easier for them to strategize their battles and potentially boost their chances of victory. We’ll have to keep an eye out to see if developers Niantic implement these changes in Shadow Legendary Raids.

For now, if you’re finding it tough to defeat Shadow Bosses in Pokémon Go, don’t worry! You can still join the ongoing Raids in August. Look forward to catching Mega Kangaskhan and Thundurus Incarnate among other thrilling encounters.
