Assassin's Creed Shadows Showcases New Parkour Animations

Highlights

  • Ubisoft shared a new Assassin’s Creed Shadows video featuring Naoe doing parkour.
  • The clip offers the longest uninterrupted look at AC Shadows parkour to date.
  • Compared to the past Assassin’s Creed protagonists, Naoe is much more flashy in how she moves across the environment, largely because she has a sizable arsenal of flips for every occasion.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest Assassin’s Creed Shadows footage has me truly excited! The extended parkour clip showcasing Naoe’s nimbleness and agility is a breath of fresh air in the series, and it’s a testament to how Ubisoft continues to push the boundaries.

Ubisoft recently unveiled new gameplay footage from Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, featuring Naoe performing parkour in feudal Japan. This newly released video provides the longest continuous view of parkour in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows that has been shown so far.

While parkour has always been synonymous with Ubisoft’s long-running franchise, the RPG trilogy simplified it quite substantially, which didn’t sit well with all fans. Rumors of Assassin’s Creed Shadows revamping the series’ parkour system have been circulating the industry since before the game was fully unveiled, back when it was still only known as AC Codename Red. Although Ubisoft has yet to outright confirm that, the gameplay footage that the company showed to date has been consistent with those reports, not least because it offered glimpses of some brand-new parkour animations.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Shows Silky-Smooth Naoe Parkour

On August 12th, even further proof of a significant change surfaced online when Ubisoft published a gameplay video for AC Shadows, emphasizing the seamless parkour. The video lasts for 35 seconds, featuring Naoe navigating rooftops by running, jumping, and grappling continuously. In contrast to previous Assassin’s Creed characters, Naoe appears to move with a more dynamic flair due to her eagerness to execute numerous flips and twists wherever possible.

The video showcases her unique methods for dismounting from a hanging position and jumping off structures, along with executing a forward roll while using the grappling hook reminiscent of ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’. She additionally performs an impressive flip when leaping over obstacles or descending from modest heights. The grappling hook’s animations in the game appear smooth and well-integrated with Naoe’s movements, avoiding a jarringly game-like feel. The video hints at potential advancements in cloth physics within ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’, as minimal clipping is noticeable. However, it’s essential to note that this sequence may not fully reflect the gameplay experience once the final product is released.

In the upcoming game “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” Ubisoft hasn’t demonstrated yet how parkour will differ for the secondary protagonist, Yasuke. Unlike the main character Naoe, who is a shinobi and known for his agility, Yasuke, being a samurai, won’t be as adept at traversing rooftops. Instead, he is designed to excel in close combat, cutting through enemies effectively. However, there will be instances where Yasuke can move stealthily and even climb suitable structures such as trees.

On November 15, I’ll be diving back into the world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, available on current-generation consoles and PC. If you pre-order a premium edition or join Ubisoft+, you can start exploring from November 12!
