Highlights
- Valorant is a hit, with unique agents and abilities that cater to both casual and competitive players alike.
- Yoru, Phoenix, and Sage are standout agents for their solo carry potential, balanced kits, and healing abilities.
- Agents like Deadlock and Iso have weaknesses that make them less effective compared to top performers like Breach and Killjoy.
As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in this game, I can confidently say that these Agents have truly left an immense impact on my gaming experience.
Riot Games’ most recent game, Valorant, has swept through the gaming world like a whirlwind. As a tactical shooter, it has been the talk of Twitch ever since its closed beta debut, captivating both casual gamers and professional players alike. It appears that everyone is hopping on the Valorant trend.
As a passionate Valorant player, one essential aspect that I can’t overlook is the diverse array of Agents in the game. These Agents are the characters we control, each boasting unique skills and traits. What sets them apart is their ability to excel in various situations, though some might prove more effective than others, particularly in competitive play. Here’s a ranking of every Agent in Valorant, a guide that benefits both casual and serious players alike.
Over the past year, Riot Games has been continuously enriching Valorant by introducing fresh maps, weapons, game modes, and characters. This dynamic approach keeps the game feeling alive and competitive while prioritizing its player base.
24 Yoru
Duelist
Yoru possesses immense power and an impressive collection of formidable armaments. He’s an excellent character to team up with, whether you’re playing solo or in a group, as he can effectively handle situations independently when necessary, and can also secure victories single-handedly.
As a fan, I’d say this Agent has a unique blend of Breach and Phoenix’s skills – he can flash himself and the team when necessary. His playstyle is quite approachable, making him an excellent choice for beginners. Yet, even seasoned players frequently revisit him due to his versatile set of abilities.
23 Phoenix
Duelist
Among the agents who show great promise for solo success, Phoenix stands out as a formidable adversary. Beyond his immense destructive power, he boasts self-reliance through his “Hot Hands” skill.
Apart from a few others, Phoenix is one of the rare players who specializes in early attacks, or “entry fragging.” This sets him apart from the rest. Generally speaking, Phoenix possesses an evenly distributed set of skills, capable of single-handedly dominating games. However, at higher levels of play, teamwork and strategic coordination can effectively counteract Phoenix’s strengths.
22 Sage
Sentinel
Among the limited number of characters in the game, Sage is unique as she possesses healing abilities for other players, substantially increasing her worth. She has the power to halt enemy advancements with her slowing effects and defensive walls. Furthermore, her ultimate skill brings back any fallen teammate, effectively turning a 5v6 situation into a 6v5 game.
As a long-time gamer, I can attest to the versatility of this character. She can excel in any role and is exceptional at both offense and defense. However, in competitive play, she often finds herself towards the middle of the pack due to most hardcore gamers favoring offensive characters over defensive ones. Nevertheless, she remains a valuable asset when paired with top-tier damage dealers. Her usefulness and adaptability make her an essential character for any team, and I’ve found myself relying on her time and time again in various gaming scenarios.
21 Reyna
Duelist
Reyna is ideal for players who prefer high-risk, high-reward strategies. She excels in tight quarters combat, boasting an impressive skill set. She stands out as one of the most effective Agents for beginners due to her straightforward abilities and the moderate damage she inflicts.
Additionally, when strategically positioned in a team, she can effectively manage on her own, making her an invaluable asset. In single player games, she might require more skill to lead to victory due to her limited skill set, but she’s far from being the weakest character. At present, she holds the top kill-to-death ratio across all competitive play tiers.
20 Deadlock
Sentinel
As a newcomer among the Valorant Sentinels, I find myself grappling with the fact that I’m not as impactful as my fellow teammates. My abilities, while unique, seem to lack the oomph needed to outmatch my opponents. The exception lies in my Barrier Mesh blocker, an X-shaped shield that stands tall among my abilities. However, the rest of my kit seems to fall short in terms of effectiveness.
Her Sonic Traps can be circumvented by moving slowly, while her Ultimate is simple to dodge prior to it locking onto a target. In contrast, the Gravnet Grenade, a potent skill from Deadlock, can momentarily halt enemy movements during hectic scenarios.
19 KAY/O
Initiator
Currently, KAY/O finds himself in quite a challenging situation. Unlike other Agents’ abilities, which skilled players can often dodge, KAY/O’s skills are exceptionally large and have distinct visual cues. This makes successfully executing an attack on him feel almost miraculous.
In optimal team setups, where agents are strategically positioned to immobilize, stun, or limit the mobility of opponents, KAY/O can still be useful in competitive play. However, it’s more often an exception rather than the norm, especially when it comes to underperforming KAY/O.
18 Fade
Initiator
Mastering positioning is crucial in advanced gameplay, and no one does it better than Fade. Her grasp power binds enemy groups to a fixed spot, denying them the chance to flee. Similarly, her Haunt skill unveils adversaries in a particular location, eliminating the need for attackers to hide behind cover.
Experienced teams who witness her exceptional play are given strategic points for tracking and neutralizing their adversaries. With a bit of guidance on utilization and effective teamwork, her potential far surpasses her baseline performance.
17 Harbor
Controller
Despite being at the bottom of the Controller rankings in Valorant, Harbor isn’t a poor agent overall. However, when weighed against other Controllers, his abilities aren’t as potent. Unlike Viper with her damaging walls and smokes, Brimstone offering an excellent Ultimate for killing or Astra’s powerful Ultimate for site control, Harbor lacks the comparable edge they have.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that while my character can temporarily halt foes as they navigate through his water barriers and smoke screens, it hasn’t been quite enough to make me choose him over other Controller characters. The one power that definitely gives me an edge, though, is the Cove shield.
16 Neon
Duelist
During intense gaming sessions, I find myself heating up, especially in critical phases of the game. But when I’m playing with Neon, it seems like a blessing in disguise. If my opponents are feeling the heat at those moments, they’re in for a world of trouble. With each enemy Neon takes down, her powers recharge, turning the tide of battle. The opposing team gets wiped out, tries to regroup, only to be obliterated yet again. It’s a relentless cycle that leaves them struggling to keep up!
Apart from enhancing her speed with movement boosts, she has the ability to disorient opponents by ricocheting projectiles off walls and creating large barriers that harm enemies attempting to pass through them. With her versatile mix of carrying, controlling, and stunning abilities, she poses a significant threat capable of single-handedly deciding the outcome of a game.
15 Iso
Duelist
Iso offers a distinctive approach within the Duelist category, boasting an intriguing skill set that might appeal to entry fraggers. However, his main drawback lies in his Ultimate, the Kill Contract. This ability selects an enemy within its range and transports both Iso and the chosen adversary to another dimension, setting them up for a 1v1 duel.
Although Iso initially has a slight edge by starting with two shields against an opponent, this advantage doesn’t seem on par with what typically constitutes an Ultimate ability, as it doesn’t significantly tip the scales. Compare this to other abilities in Valorant; few are like Kill Contract, which can actually place the user in harm’s way. Even after winning a 1v1 fight, the player re-enters the map blind, leaving them vulnerable once more.
14 Clove
Controller
In the world of Valorant, a new Controller character named Clove has been introduced. Her ultimate ability resembles that of Sage, but unlike Sage, she can only revive herself and it’s quite challenging to do so. Similar to Brimstone, Clove can create smoke, but she has two smokes at her disposal. Additionally, she possesses a throwable item that can cause decay to enemies, making them weaker. However, the feature that sets Clove apart is her ultimate ability.
In this game, when Clove accumulates enough orbs to activate her ultimate ability, the player receives a prompt following their in-game demise. This prompt allows them to deploy her special move. As she uses it, Clove transforms into a ghost for a brief spell and can seek refuge somewhere. Upon the expiration of this phase, she reenters the game with a time limit. If she successfully slays an enemy before the clock ticks down, she remains alive; otherwise, she perishes again. This unique ability gives players a chance to resuscitate, making it more effective than Iso’s ultimate, as it offers a second opportunity.
13 Gekko
Initiator
Gekko is an agent in Valorant that’s relatively easy to master due to his straightforward yet influential skills. Like all Initiator agents, he possesses a deployable ability that serves two purposes: it reveals any nearby enemy players and momentarily disables their vision for a short period.
One standout feature of Gekko is his capacity to pass the Spike to Wingman, enabling him to plant it instead. This way, Gekko avoids jeopardizing himself or any other team members, making him a selfless and valuable asset to the team.
12 Chamber
Sentinel
Although Chamber boasts an impressive kill-to-death ratio, ranking second among all characters currently, he struggles to secure wins with the lowest win rate. It seems odd for such a deadly character to be a hindrance to the team. Unfortunately, despite being advised well, his inherent weaknesses make him an unwise choice.
As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in online gaming, I’ve come to realize that kill-to-death ratios can be deceivingly misleading. You don’t necessarily need to rack up a high body count to make your ratio impressive. Take Chambers, for example, he is an exceptional defender, able to lock down areas effectively. But when it comes to contributing on offense, he falls short. He rarely dies in combat, which is commendable, but his lack of offensive contributions makes him less impactful overall. It’s a tough balance to strike in team-based games, finding that perfect blend of defense and offense, but Chambers seems to lean more towards the defensive side.
11 Astra
Controller
In simpler terms, Astra is a new character that gamers will have to adapt to. While she excels in professional matches, it’s crucial for players to try out her playstyle from the initial stages of the game if they want her to stand out at higher levels.
Despite being tricky to manage and master, her talents prove incredibly useful. Her primary talent is the ability to teleport across almost any point on the map, and she can transform into an Astral Form that offers a bird’s-eye view of the entire map. In this form, Astra has the power to place five stars, each of which can be triggered using one of her three abilities.
10 Skye
Initiator
Skye, with her affection for animals and unique healing powers, quickly becomes a beloved figure. However, she can be challenging to master. Yet, her abilities prove valuable during team play situations.
In single-player games, Skye often finds it tough to maintain her position and usually depends heavily on her team. Yet, when her team communicates effectively with Skye, she becomes an instrumental factor, significantly influencing the game’s outcome and contributing to victory.
9 Brimstone
Controller
Brimstone is an excellent choice for most team setups due to his versatile abilities. His Smoke Grenades create a misleading fog screen, which resets at the start of each round, making him indispensable for utility purposes on any team. Additionally, he wields a Molotov that inflicts damage over an area to enemies. With his user-friendly design and diverse skill set, Brimstone proves useful in every situation.
His ultimate “Orbital Strike” is a devastating move, that dishes out ludicrous Area of Effect damage on a targeted location, and can single-handedly change the tide of a game. Console gamers looking forward to playing will certainly enjoy what Brimstone brings to the table.
8 Breach
Initiator
Among all characters in the game, Breach stands out as an exceptional initiator. His unique ability to flash-peek enemies and scan multiple angles gives him an impressive level of utility that significantly boosts his team’s chances of success. With Breach in play, no player is truly secure since he can see through covers and walls using his abilities.
As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of video games, I can confidently say that Breach, one of the Agents in my favorite game, is truly a standout asset. His unique ability, ‘Aftershock,’ has proven to be an indispensable tool in my gaming arsenal. In tight situations where enemies are rushing forward or hiding in corners, Aftershock allows me to effectively shut down chokepoints and reveal the hidden enemies. This feature alone makes Breach one of the best Agents I’ve come across, significantly enhancing my gameplay experience.
7 Killjoy
Sentinel
As a Trapper Agent, Killjoy boasts robust skills in maintaining site security and alerting players about potential assaults on various sites. Unlike Cypher, however, Killjoy’s devices require proximity to function effectively; they deactivate if she strays too far from them.
Managing Killjoy’s unique talents may prove challenging, given that she excels particularly in competitive play. If you’re a more relaxed gamer, it might be better to avoid her. On the other hand, those who learn to navigate her intricate abilities and maneuvers will undoubtedly enjoy a rewarding experience.
6 Sova
Initiator
Sova is an underrated Agent who brings a lot to the table. His ability, Reckon Bolts, allows him to scout nearby enemies, making him a strong force on both offense and defense. Gathering information early with the help of Sova can allow players to rotate on time, waste fewer utilities, and it just allow their team to perform better altogether.
With his formidable Hunter’s Fury added in, he becomes an exceptional sniper. Sova is a multi-talented character; he can even function effectively as the main source of damage when necessary.
5 Cypher
Sentinel
An alternative description for a scout agent named Cypher is that he’s a master of information acquisition. His Trapwire tool enables him to spot adversaries, thus providing an advantage in defending bomb locations. He excels at managing key passageways, which facilitates understanding enemy patterns and positioning traps strategically.
As a gamer, I’ve come to realize that Cypher is quite the lone wolf when it comes to securing sites. This independence has made him a fan favorite among Agents in the game. What sets him apart is his ultimate ability – with just a scan of a nearby deceased player, he can pinpoint every other player on the map. Now that’s a powerful tool!
