As a long-time fan of the Borderlands franchise, I must admit that the movie did a commendable job of capturing the essence of these vibrant characters and their quirks. Among all the memorable lines, three stood out to me, each embodying the unique personalities of Tiny Tina, Claptrap, and Krieg respectively.
In the Borderlands game series, conversations among characters are renowned for their quick-witted and engaging style. This ranges from enemies announcing attacks either from behind or upfront, to teammates discussing backstory via radio transmissions. The amount of dialogue can be quite substantial.
In the film adaptation of Borderlands, the rapid-fire dialogue is toned down compared to the original, but it doesn’t lack humor. From well-known characters like Lilith to less familiar ones, there are plenty of amusing lines scattered throughout this fast-paced action comedy. (No spoilers for the lesser-known characters!)

6 “Who Does?”
Lilith
One standout scene in the movie unfolds at the bar where Lilith makes her debut. She’s jubilant after collecting a reward and enjoying her drink when representatives of the Atlas Corporation approach. They carry a message from their superior, Deukalian Atlas, whom Lilith is eager to dismiss without a second thought.
1. They told her that Deukalian Atlas dislikes being kept on hold, prompting Lilith to retort with a swift remark worthy of the quickest gunslingers from the Old West. This Lilith is not someone to be underestimated; even witty banter won’t change her mind. However, when a hologram of Deukalian Atlas emerged and offered her a substantial sum, she relented to cooperate.
5 “Bus Is For Vault Hunters.”
Marcus
Marcus plays an eminent role throughout the Borderlands series, serving both as a narrator in the initial game and making numerous subsequent appearances. Although his character has limited screen time in the film, it remains memorable and distinctive.
In the film, when Lilith arrives at Pandora, Marcus assumes she’s a Vault Hunter and guides her towards an infomercial promoting his preparation services for such hunters. Despite Lilith’s repeated protests, he persists, showing a clear desire to capitalize on the situation, reflecting the corporate greed theme of the movie. Essentially, Marcus is simply one of many entrepreneurs striving to succeed in this chaotic cosmic environment.
4 “You Accidentally Shot Me In The Face Again.”
Claptrap
As a devoted fan, I’d venture to say that Claptrap stands out as an exceptional character from the games. In many ways, Jack Black’s portrayal captures the essence of a sarcastic, emotionally-challenged robot perfectly. This robot, who can’t seem to grasp human feelings, somehow stumbles upon Lilith on Pandora and solemnly swears that he was programmed to find her one day.
In a nonchalant manner, Lilith seemingly mistook firing at Claptrap for mere accidental shots. Unperturbed by this supposed rejection, Claptrap humorously believed it was an unintentional action on Lilith’s part. A humorous sequence unfolds when Lilith confines Claptrap within a cage after pilfering a vehicle, yet Claptrap remains oblivious to Lilith’s deliberate rudeness. Despite the nuisance Claptrap characters often present in the game and movie environment, they serve as the beloved mascot of the franchise, making their absence seem less than ideal.
3 “Electric Shower!”
Tiny Tina And Krieg
In the initial introduction, it’s clear that this isn’t a futuristic world I’d want to call home. It appears people are more like assets owned by corporations. If they don’t fall under the umbrella of a corporation such as Atlas or Hyperion, they might be struggling wastelanders, eking out a living through odd jobs like bounty hunting, raiding, or what they call Vault Hunting.
In the future, small joys can bring excitement, such as reaching a destination with an electric shower. This discovery leaves both Tiny Tina and Krieg delighted, causing them to exclaim “Electric Shower!” in unison as they leap in together. Instead of water, electricity serves as the cleaning agent in this futuristic setup – or so it seems, given that Dr. Tannis uses such a shower. Later in the Borderlands movie, she even demonstrates a handheld electric shower with similar effectiveness.
2 “I’m Celebrating Because You’re Alive.”
Claptrap
In the Borderlands movie, Claptrap delivers another memorable line when it appears Lilith has betrayed the group. Tiny Tina attempts to destroy Lilith with an explosion, but she miraculously survives. Upon Lilith’s return, an excited Claptrap is seen dancing in jubilation over her apparent demise. However, once he realizes Lilith is unharmed, Claptrap changes his tune and seems delighted to see her safe and sound.
By the climax of the film, it becomes clear that Claptrap comes to understand Lilith isn’t a kind individual and even finds her amusing in her desire for her own demise through lighthearted jests. Interestingly, during a critical moment, Lilith attempts to mend relationships with everyone. Despite this effort, no one seems to truly acknowledge the feelings or opinions of these robots.
1 “Glorious Meat Fiesta!”
Krieg
As a dedicated Borderlands gamer, I’ve got to say, the on-screen version of Krieg from the movie is quite distinct from the gaming counterpart I know and love. You see, in the world of Borderlands 2, Krieg was first unleashed as a DLC playable character, a character with an intriguing backstory. He’d spew out nonsense most of the time, but there was this intelligent, refined side to him that added a layer of complexity to his character. This duality made Krieg such an entertaining character to play, amidst all the meat-centric rants he’d go on about.
In the Borderlands film, Krieg’s character exhibits a recurring affection for meat, as evidenced by his last line, “Glorious Meat Festival.” This response comes after Roland invites him to partake in the festivities below. Regardless of whether there is actual meat at the event, it’s simply how Krieg expresses himself, and fans wouldn’t dream of it being any different.
