Overlooked Pokemon Go feature reveals Team Rocket counters but there’s a catch

As a seasoned Pokémon Go trainer with countless hours spent battling Team Rocket Grunts, I’ve come to realize that this digital foe is as cunning and crafty as their real-world counterparts. The Dark-type Grunt has always been a thorn in my side, with their devious use of Stunky and Alolan Muk, Pokémon that seem to defy all strategies.

Overcoming Team Rocket Grunts in Pokemon Go remains just as tough, despite the team’s revamped rosters. Although the game suggests suitable counterparts for their Shadow creatures, it occasionally fails to be effective against regular Grunts.

As a dedicated Pokémon trainer preparing for the Team Rocket showdown, don’t forget to explore the secret hidden within the search bar! Simply click on the question mark right beside it to unveil the types that your opponents’ team is vulnerable to, giving you an edge in selecting the perfect Pokémon companions for battle.

Generally, Grunts with a Dark type tend to be vulnerable to Bug, Fighting, and Fairy creatures. However, cunning non-player characters (NPCs) often employ Stunky and Alolan Muk, two Poison/Dark species that are immune to attacks from these types.

Although a player would tend to use the recommended counters, shockers like Stunky and two Alolan Muk would throw all strategies out of the window. Not to mention, these Pokemon are incredibly bulky, making them tougher to beat.

In response to Reddit user ‘SundownCaress’ posting about the question mark trick for discovering suitable counter-options, other gamers advised them to keep an eye on the Grunt’s team composition.

Watch out for the Dark-type trainers! At least one, and it could even be all three, of their Pokémon might be both Dark and Poison. This means that your regular Dark counter moves won’t work as well. Make sure to always have a strong Ground-type Pokémon with you to handle them effectively.

Someone playfully suggested that the game could advise using Ground-type Pokémon to counteract difficult Dark-type Grunts, since powerful options like Primal Groudon, Mega Garchomp, and Excadrill are particularly effective in such situations.

Nevertheless, the discussion about Ground-type Pokémon led some trainers to bring up an infamous Grunt who usually catches them off guard.

As a gamer, I find it frustrating when I encounter double Steel-type Pokémon like Skarmory. Usually, I’d rely on my Groudon with Precipice Blades or Fire Punch, but it seems to take longer than I prefer because Steel types are weak against Fighting and Ground attacks. However, Skarmory’s Flying subtype negates these weaknesses, making it a tougher nut to crack.

Given that you can fight a Team Rocket Grunt more than once, it’s wise to engage them using the suggested counter-attackers initially, and then adjust your team according to their lineup. For example, if you encounter Skarmory, Fire-type Pokémon are effective against them.

Following your victory over the Grunt teams in Pokémon Go, brace yourself for encounters against Arlo, Sierra, Cliff, and their superior, Giovanni – ready for some intense battles!
