Battlefield 6 Has Some of the Smallest Maps in the Series

A passionate Battlefield fan compared maps from different games in the series and found that the newest installment features some of the smallest, most confined spaces. While the latest Battlefield game has generally been well-received and helped revitalize the franchise, players have pointed out a few issues. Specifically, the multiplayer maps have come under criticism, and it now seems those concerns are valid.

The newest Battlefield game has launched to incredible success, selling over 7 million copies in just five days and generating hundreds of millions in revenue. However, developers are still working to fix some problems that were present even during the game’s beta testing phase.

Scale Comparison Reveals Battlefield 6 Maps Are Among the Series’ Smallest

I was reading Reddit the other day and came across a really interesting post by ClaraTheRed. They did a deep dive comparing the map sizes in all the Battlefield games – Battlefield 3, 4, Hardline, 1, 2042, and the newest one, Battlefield 6. It totally confirms what a lot of us have been saying since before Battlefield 6 even came out: the maps really are smaller! It’s not just a feeling; ClaraTheRed’s breakdown shows they actually have significantly less space to play in compared to some of the most beloved games in the series. Though, it’s good to know a couple of the maps are a bit bigger and offer more room to move around.

Although Operation Firestorm and Mirak Valley are reasonably large maps in the Battlefield series, most of Battlefield 6‘s maps are smaller. When considering the actual area where players can move and fight, four maps—Siege of Cairo, Iberian Offensive, Empire State, and Saints Quarter—rank among the five smallest in all the Battlefield games analyzed. Only Ziba Tower from Battlefield 3 is even smaller. Interestingly, Battlefield 3 and 4, often praised by fans for their strong gameplay, feature some of the largest maps in the entire series.

Players have been discussing the maps in Battlefield 6, and many feel the problem isn’t just their size. They’re pointing out that the maps are often very open and simple, which leads to frantic, unpredictable gameplay and a lack of good cover or opportunities for strategic movement. EA plans to add new maps throughout Season 1 and beyond, so it remains to be seen if the developers will respond to this feedback. However, current data supports the claim that the game’s maps feel too small for many players.
