Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns – 5 Biggest Changes to Expect

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns - 5 Biggest Changes to Expect

As a longtime follower of the Mortal Kombat universe, I must say that the upcoming changes in the story mode are truly intriguing. The fate of the Lin Kuei Clan, under the new leadership, is shrouded in mystery and I find myself eagerly awaiting to see who will rise to power after Bi-Han’s disappearance.

Mortal Kombat 1: Chaos Prevails

In the sequel to the tale initiated in MK1, titled “Khaos Reigns”, we delve deeper into Liu Kang’s new epoch, offering valuable insights on how events unfold. As the narrative progresses towards the denser, pivotal points of the initial timeline and additional characters join the fray, players should brace themselves for numerous alterations in key characters, factions, and plot points. Herein lies a sneak peek at some of the most significant transformations that fans can look forward to in the eagerly awaited expansion of MK1.

5 The Kamidogu

The Mythical Macguffins May Be Back

In essence, the Kamidogu serve a role similar to Marvel’s Infinity Stones within the Mortal Kombat universe. In the game titled Mortal Kombat Deception, the main character Shujinko undertook a mission to gather the Kamidogu from every realm. However, these powerful artifacts were eventually seized by Onaga, who aimed to restructure the realms according to his own vision using them.

In the MKX comics, the Kamidogu resurfaced, this time transforming into blood-summoning daggers wielded by Havik to manipulate other characters and call forth Shinnok’s amulet. The trailer for Khaos Reigns concludes with Havik vowing bloodshed, displaying six relics resembling stone embedded in his torso. It can be presumed that these might be the updated versions of the Kamidogu, and their future function may differ from their previous uses.

4 The Birth of Noob Saibot

Bi-Han’s Not-So-Tragic Downfall?

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns - 5 Biggest Changes to Expect

Originally, Bi-Han was a crueler, vengeful, and merciless leader within the Lin Kuei clan. He participated in the initial Mortal Kombat tournament with the intention of murdering Shang Tsung. However, Scorpion managed to incinerate him before he could carry out his plan, sending Bi-Han to the realm of the dead (Netherrealm) prematurely.

In the realm of the Netherworld, Bi-Han transforms into Noob Saibot and aligns himself with the Brotherhood of Shadows under Shinnok’s command. However, in Liu Kang’s new era, it seems that Bi-Han may reclaim his role as Noob in an entirely fresh manner. It appears that Titan Havik has been conducting forcible experiments on Bi-Han. In the glimpses we get of Noob, he reaffirms his allegiance to Chaos, rather than Shinnok. In the upcoming story, Khaos Reigns, it seems that Bi-Han’s potential downfall could be even more heartbreaking. Unlike a typical villain, he has gained popularity among fans and has sparked numerous memes due to his appearances in the story mode.

3 The New Lin Kuei Dynamic

The Famed Clan May Be Due An Altered Fate

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns - 5 Biggest Changes to Expect

Originally, it was Kuai Liang who took over the role of Sub-Zero and became the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei following his brother’s demise. However, he encountered resistance from Cyrax, Sektor, and the entire Cyber Initiative. Despite these challenges, Kuai Liang eventually managed to gain control of the clan and trained them to serve as a positive fighting force.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder who will step up as the new leader of the Lin Kuei now that Bi-Han has been captured by Havik. With Smoke and Scorpion setting off for Japan to establish the Shirai Ryu, it seems there’s an empty seat in the iconic clan’s leadership. This may mark the first time in over two decades that Kuai Liang won’t be shaping the Lin Kuei’s future. It remains a mystery if Cyrax and Sektor will take charge, or if something completely unexpected occurs instead.

2 New Cyber Initiative

A More Iron-Man-Esque Approach?

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns - 5 Biggest Changes to Expect

It’s indisputable among fans that in the latest Cyber Initiative, Cyrax and Sektor are no longer cyborgs or robots; instead, they appear to don armor-clad, technologically advanced suits. This shift is significant because their transformation into cyborgs has been a crucial element in every previous portrayal of the classic tale. Moreover, fans have witnessed them battling Shaolin Monks and other warriors dressed in dark attire. Given that the Shaolin Monks are the ‘good guys’ in the Mortal Kombat 1 universe, it’s clear that the Lin Kuei’s new cyber initiative is at least questionable morally.

Beyond this, spectators have witnessed Kuai Liang clashing with Cyrax and observed her corrupting the Lin Kuei. Similarly, Cyrax and Sektor are often seen engaging in conflict. This could suggest that one of them is dissatisfied with the path the initiative is taking.

1 Titan Havik

The New Big Bad Has A Lot To Live Up To

In the upcoming game “Khaos Reigns”, a significant shift can be anticipated in the storyline of a character previously considered underused, Havik. Previously known more for his mischief, Havik will now take center stage as the expansion’s main antagonist. As a Titan, Havik’s thirst for chaos is expected to pose a serious threat not just within a single realm, but across multiple realms instead.

Comparing Titan Havik from his current time period to Liu Kang’s era could provide an intriguing contrast. Given Havik’s increased significance, it seems likely that we might see a shift in attention towards Orderrealm and Chaosrealm instead of the customary characters.
