Highlights
- Borderlands excels at endgame activity with new missions, raids, and replayable content to challenge Vault Hunters.
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel lacked endgame content, leaving players with repetitive missions post-credits.
- Borderlands 3 offers abundant slaughter maps and takedowns with stellar gunplay, despite a lack of raid bosses.
As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that when it comes to endgame content, Borderlands 2 takes the crown for me. Having played every game in the series, I’ve seen them all, from the humble beginnings of the original Borderlands to the fantasy-filled world of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
In the realm of Borderlands, the final act is a pivotal piece of the puzzle. As a seasoned gamer, I can attest that wrapping up an RPG with such powerful character builds and an arsenal of well-acquired loot, only to start from scratch again, isn’t exactly appealing. But fear not, Borderlands delivers in the post-game arena, offering fresh missions, raids, and content ripe for replay, ensuring that the Vault Hunters like me continue to be tested and rewarded.
Each Borderlands game offers a memorable endgame experience, but which one gives players the most value for their money? Endgame content is crucial in RPGs like these, making them enjoyable even after defeating the final boss. Both newcomers and veterans of the Borderlands series can appreciate the games’ content once the main challenge has been conquered.
5 Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
Repeating Content From Side Missions, And Not Much Else
As a devoted fan, I’d say I feel a tad disappointed about Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It seemed to be the overlooked sibling in the Borderlands family, with critics and players alike not fully embracing it like they did with other titles. Despite having a base game and one DLC pack that were among the series’ finest, its reception was less than stellar. Regrettably, even these top-notch elements couldn’t prevent Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel from developing a decent endgame.
Essentially, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel lacked substantial content for post-campaign play, with many activities being repetitions or experiences players had already encountered. It’s unfortunate that the game appears less engaging following the main storyline.
4 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Chaos Chambers Dominate A Repeating Endgame
In “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands,” there’s a potential breath of fresh air for the “Borderlands” series through its fantasy elements, but it seems to go overboard on the loot pool, leading to an excessive amount of weapons that many players might not be able to obtain. Although the narratives in “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” are among the franchise’s strongest, the post-game content falls short, becoming tedious and repetitive due to the contested chaos chambers, which require a significant amount of grinding.
In essence, the main attractions of “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” revolve around the chaos chambers, and the post-game content seems rather sparse. Despite being the latest installment in the series, it appears to be a more compact spin-off that many players might finish and move on from once completed.
3 Borderlands
An Endgame Reliant On DLCs With Great Potential For Challenge
Initially, the first Borderlands game left a lasting impression with its numerous standout features, but its post-release content was somewhat limited, particularly in terms of the endgame. To begin with, the final boss fell short of expectations, and the material available after the closing credits felt sparse. However, this changed significantly once the DLCs were introduced, notably the Armory of General Knoxx, which not only enhanced the Borderlands’ endgame experience but also unveiled a previously unexplored world beyond the main narrative.
Borderlands might not have boasted the most sophisticated endgame compared to other games in the series, but it laid groundwork for future entries with innovative mechanics such as its first raid boss and abundant loot farming opportunities. Consequently, despite being plundered after raiding the Vault, Borderlands remained a valuable addition to the franchise due to these features.
2 Borderlands 3
An Abundance Of Slaughter Maps And Takedowns Aided By Stellar Gunplay
The most engaging and hard-to-put-down gameplay of the Borderlands series can be found in Borderlands 3, with refined updates to its gunplay significantly enhancing the quality of endgame content, surpassing that of earlier installments. The game’s exceptional DLC stories and content make it exceptional at offering enjoyable post-story experiences, but there are some flaws.
Although it’s disappointing that there are fewer raid bosses in Borderlands 3 compared to Borderlands 2, the game still offers an enjoyable experience thanks to the large amount of loot you can earn, and the repeatable content such as slaughter maps, proving grounds, and takedowns. However, it’s unfortunate that Borderlands 3 doesn’t boast the most diverse build options due to a lack of DLC Vault Hunters.
1 Borderlands 2
Incredible DLCs And Raids To Make Players And Enemies OP
After the fall of both the Warrior and Handsome Jack, gamers of Borderlands 2 are left with a wealth of post-game content to explore. The game offers numerous raid bosses that can be revisited when Eridium is paid. Additionally, downloadable content such as new storylines and Headhunters provide even more boss encounters and playthrough opportunities for Borderlands 2. In essence, the game seems to have an infinite supply of boss battles and additional playthroughs.
In Borderlands 2, players were all about amassing immense power, and the OP10 content facilitated incredibly potent character builds that could hold their own against overwhelmingly powerful adversaries. The game offered an immense level of difficulty and a captivating cycle of gameplay and crafting, which contributed significantly to Borderlands 2’s lasting popularity and iconic status.
