The news that another big Xbox exclusive might be making its way to PlayStation next week has me both intrigued and a bit skeptical.

A prominent source with a history of accurate leaks hints that a significant Xbox console exclusive could soon become available on PlayStation as well. If their intel is correct, the upcoming Xbox title potentially heading for multiple platforms may be unveiled at Gamescom in 2024.

In February 2024, Microsoft initially revealed its campaign to release games across multiple platforms. Throughout the following months, they made available several of their games on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation systems, or a combination of both, based on the specific game in question.

New Xbox Multi-Platform Game Reportedly Getting Announced Next Week

It appears that Shinobi602, known for his leaks, suggests we might be on the brink of learning about upcoming Xbox games. In a recent conversation on ResetEra Forum boards, he hinted at a significant Xbox game’s multi-platform port announcement coming within the next week. This timeframe coincides with Gamescom 2024, raising the possibility that this major reveal could occur during this event. Notably, Xbox has confirmed its participation in Gamescom 2024 with over 50 games, implying they may share some news there as well.

All Xbox Games That Went Multi-Platform in 2024 (So Far)

Last week, Shinobi602 didn’t provide any clues about the upcoming game that’s rumored to be getting a multi-platform release announcement next week. Later on, leaker eXtas1s posted on Twitter suggesting that the game could potentially be Forza Horizon 5. This guess was made by sharing a GIF of a rough map that resembled Mexico and a Spanish message saying “happy Cinco de Mayo”. It’s important to note that Forza Horizon 5 is set in Mexico. However, this tweet might simply be a speculation rather than a confirmed leak.

As a gamer, I’m not entirely sure if Microsoft is going to announce multiple cross-platform releases during the third week of August 2024. However, there have been several whispers suggesting that we might see more Xbox games making their way onto other platforms soon. Microsoft has hinted that they’re far from done with bringing console exclusives to rival platforms. In fact, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, mentioned earlier that porting decisions will be made on a per-game basis. The initial announcement about venturing into multi-platform games indicated that only titles that have already found success on Xbox consoles and PC would be considered for these cross-overs.

Although Forza Horizon 5 aligns with this description, the Forza racing series by Playground Games is a significant video game franchise for Microsoft at the moment. The idea of it being released on competing platforms is similar to Halo or Gears of War transitioning to PlayStation, which is not outright inconceivable. However, whether Microsoft has reached the point where such multi-platform publishing is feasible is uncertain, but not entirely impossible. This uncertainty arises due to speculation that more Xbox console exclusives may be ported to other platforms in the near future, as suggested by a report from June 2024.
