Like many gamers, I appreciate a well-made multiplayer game. However, nothing truly replaces a fantastic single-player experience. The best single-player games can deliver compelling stories, innovative gameplay, and push creative boundaries β or just be incredibly enjoyable. They can be frightening, humorous, emotionally impactful, romantic, or even minimal on plot. Some offer grand, cinematic action, while others focus on deep character development with simple interactions, or huge worlds that take a long time to fully discover.
The latter half of 2025 and early 2026 promise a strong lineup of games, with a couple of major single-player titles expected to generate a lot of buzz. While they may not have the lasting appeal of games like Call of Duty or Battlefield, these new releases should be very popular and, hopefully, deliver a great gaming experience.
A few notes:
- Only games that prioritize single-player. Black Ops 7 has a campaign and will be massive, but multiplayer is its main selling point.
- We will try to highlight a couple of different genres.
- Only games with release dates.
- As we have already covered the biggest releases of November 2025, this article starts from December. That said, a few November games are mentioned as honorable mentions.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
The Big Nintendo Switch Holiday Game (And The Biggest Single-Player Game Left In 2025)
After almost ten years of waiting, Metroid Prime 4 is nearly here! Officially titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the game is being developed by Retro Studios, the team behind the original Metroid Prime trilogy, which is great news for fans. Nintendo is keeping most details secret, as usual, but we know the story will unfold on a planet named Viewros and, of course, you’ll play as the bounty hunter Samus Aran.
In terms of how it plays, Beyond will likely feel similar to previous Metroid Prime games. However, the Switch 2βs Joy-Con controllers should offer more precise aiming. The game will also introduce psychic abilities for Samus, adding a new dimension to the classic shooting mechanics. Although being released on multiple console generations might hold it back slightly, Metroid Prime 4 is expected to be excellent.
Here is a breakdown of the Nintendo Switch 2’s upcoming video game calendar.
Pathologic 3
A Fantastic Psychological Horror Franchise That Deserves To Be Bigger
Look, I’m dreaming a little when I say I hope Pathologic 3 is a massive hit. The first two games weren’t exactly mainstream, but they’ve built up a following thanks to videos and streams online, and that’s got me hoping the third one will really break through. Still, part of me thinks Pathologic is special because it’s a hidden gem β something you discover through word of mouth, not huge marketing. As long as the third game nails that unsettling, creepy atmosphere of the originals, though, I think it’s going to be one of the best psychological horror games when it comes out in 2026.
You’re a doctor racing against time to save a town from a deadly disease that will wipe it out in under two weeks. You’ll face difficult choices and need to learn from your errors to uncover the source of the outbreak. The town is controlled by three powerful families, and as an outsider, you must earn the trust of both the leaders and the community to succeed.
Looking for some other PC games? Here is a rundown of the major upcoming releases.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined
The Biggest Upcoming JRPG
While some might be surprised by this choice, remaking Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is a smart move. The original game, while enjoyable, can feel slow and lacks a strong sense of urgency, making it less appealing to play now. Dragon Quest 5 and 8, on the other hand, have aged much better and donβt really need remakes, though Iβd happily play them if they did get one.
Square Enix understands the problems with the original Dragon Quest VII, and the remake, Reimagined, is built to be a smoother experience while still capturing the fun and adventurous spirit of the first game. Combat will be traditional Dragon Quest turn-based, but with some new features like class-based abilities. The gameβs art style is a departure from other titles in the series, and that could be a positive change.
The next few months should be great for JRPG fans.
Nioh 3
The Next Big Soulslike (And Action RPG)
Personally, I’m most excited for Nioh 3. I thought the first game was fantastic, and this series really stands out within the Soulslike genre. Team Ninja has created a unique combat system that’s faster-paced than most, giving players a wide range of options to defeat enemies and bosses.
Earlier Nioh games focused on individual missions, but Nioh 3 is moving towards larger, more open environments. While I personally preferred the more focused, linear levels of the previous games, I trust Team Ninja to make this new approach work well. Their experience with Rise of the Ronin, a good open-world game, should help them create an even better experience with Nioh 3.
Do you own a PS5 but aren’t into Soulslikes? Well, no worries, as the console’s calendar is packed.
Resident Evil Requiem
The Biggest Early Game Of 2026
It’s great to be excited about Resident Evil again. The series struggled for a while in the early 2010s, but recent successes have given us confidence in the future of the main games. Resident Evil Requiem looks set to start a new chapter for the franchise, blending elements from both first-person and third-person gameplay.
Blending horror and action could be a real strength for this game, something previous Resident Evil titles have often found difficult to achieve. The game is set in Racoon City, thirty years after its destruction, and follows Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst, as she investigates a string of murders and becomes the target of a terrifying creature.
