Elden Ring DLC Saves FromSoftware Parent Company from Cyberattack Losses

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for all things challenging and immersive, I can confidently say that Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has been nothing short of a game-changer. Having battled my way through the original game, I was eagerly anticipating more from FromSoftware, and boy, did they deliver! The DLC’s record-breaking sales, critical acclaim, and the sheer number of hours I’ve sunk into it are testament to its quality. It’s not every day that a video game saves a company from such extraordinary losses, but then again, Elden Ring is no ordinary game.

Today, it was announced that the company behind FromSoftware has published an earnings statement showing that the release of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC played a crucial role in helping them recover financially following the substantial financial setbacks they experienced due to the recent cyber-attack.

As per a report by GameBiz through Automaton, Kadokawa Corporation registered a significant growth: its annual sales climbed up by 11.9%, operating profit soared by 84.5%, and ordinary profit went up by 26.2%. Unfortunately, the company was hit by a cyberattack in June, causing an estimated loss of about 2,000 million yen or around $13 million. This incident resulted in a 10.1% reduction in net profit for FromSoftware’s parent company.

In the gaming sector, the remarkable domestic sales of Elden Ring’s DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, played a significant role in boosting results. This popular expansion pack not only attracted new customers but also encouraged repeat purchases of the original game. As a result, the net sales for this segment experienced a substantial increase of 80.2% year-over-year, with operating profit climbing by an impressive 108.1%. It’s important to note that these figures represent sales up until June 30, with Shadow of the Erdtree launching on June 21. Given the continued popularity of this expansion pack, the actual numbers could be significantly higher.

Given the remarkable feats demonstrated by Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s not hard to understand how the Elden Ring DLC significantly boosted FromSoftware’s parent company. The DLC saw an astounding sale of over 5 million copies in just its first 3 days, and it holds the title of the highest-rated DLC ever produced, among other impressive achievements.
