As a long-time fan of One Piece, I can’t help but feel both awestruck and anxious about the path our beloved Straw Hat Pirate, Luffy, is walking. This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Egghead Arc.

In the long-running series “One Piece,” we’ve often encountered formidable characters. Lately, the Final Saga has elevated the Five Elders to significant adversaries within the narrative. These Five Elders hold direct connections to Imu, a world ruler and another major antagonist, hinting at future conflicts involving them. During the Egghead Island arc, readers were given an insight into the capabilities of the Five Elders and just how threatening they can be in combat situations.

As a dedicated gamer, let me share my thoughts on a recent twist in the One Piece saga that’s got everyone talking. Previously, we’ve all grappled with those seemingly invincible monsters, cursing their impervious armor as we took hit after hit without retaliation. But chapter 1122 turned the tables! It revealed to us players that there’s a secret weapon – Haki – capable of countering the Elders.

The Immortality Of The Elders And How Haki Counters It

  • Elders Can Regenerate Endlessly
  • Haki Negates Yokai Powers

The Five Elders possess a myriad of formidable abilities, some even rivaling Shanks, one of the most powerful characters in the story. Not only do they wield an extraordinarily potent Haki, but they also seem to have unique Yokai-based abilities that don’t resemble Devil Fruit powers. Instead, it appears these abilities are innate to them, as if they are actual demonic entities. The Elders can communicate telepathically and perform rituals akin to summoning demons, hinting at their distinct powers that differ from typical devil fruits and exhibit a demonic nature. This is reflected in their Yokai-themed names rather than having Devil Fruits that transform them into these creatures. The Five Elders stand out as formidable villains not only because of their transformations, but also for introducing elements never seen before in One Piece.

It’s no use! These guys cannot die! – Luffy

The true threat that the Elders bring comes in the form of immortality. They are extremely powerful and dangerous because they cannot die. It was clearly pointed out in the Egghead Island arc of One Piece that the Five Elders are practically immortal. Any damage they take is healed within a matter of seconds. Even if the Elders are reduced to bits, they simply regenerate within a few seconds and it’s almost as if they were never injured in the first place. It also directly ties to their stamina, which appears to be infinite, as things stand right now.

One Piece: The Haki Weakness Of The Five Elders, Explained

The Elders are incredibly powerful and draining adversaries who cannot be vanquished by conventional methods. In truth, Luffy ultimately chose to flee from them because, although he had the strength to subdue them, he found that his attacks were ineffective in causing lasting harm. He concluded that engaging them in battle was futile and opted for retreat as a more practical choice.

One Piece: The Haki Weakness Of The Five Elders, Explained

It’s evident that Luffy and his crew on Egghead judged it unwise to confront the Elders, indicating they must reach a new level of strength to effectively challenge them. If one is to face the Five Elders and Imu, they need to become stronger and devise strategies to counteract the Elders effectively. Interestingly, fans noticed that Haki was Luffy’s weakness against the Elders in the last chapter. However, unexpectedly, Luffy, who is skilled in all advanced forms of Haki, couldn’t inflict substantial damage on the Elders. This is intriguing, considering Luffy’s mastery over Haki. Yet, when Emet used Joy Boy’s Haki in the previous chapter, he managed to nullify the Yokai transformations of the Elders and cancel Saturn’s summoning.

1. Not only did he manage to return the elders to Marijoa, they were visibly unsteady upon their return. Simultaneously, the strength of Joyboy’s Haki was conveyed back to Imu, implying that even they felt the immense power it wielded. In fact, Joy Boy’s Haki was so overpowering that all Marines on the island lost consciousness, including Vice Admirals – a surprising sight for fans. Moreover, Joy Boy’s Haki split the skies on its own, an achievement typically requiring two powerful Conqueror’s Haki users. Evidently, Joy Boy’s Haki was the strongest display of Haki that One Piece fans have witnessed, surpassing even that of Shanks and Roger – a seemingly impossible feat at one time. However, it is the challenge Luffy must face if he is to battle against the Elders and Imu. If Luffy is to engage them, he will need to greatly enhance his Haki, which means significant power-ups are in store for him in the future.

Luffy’s Inability To Counter The Elders And His Haki Growth

Luffy Will Have To Surpass The Yonko To Fulfil The Will of D

In the Egghead Island arc, it became evident to spectators that Luffy struggled to counter the regenerative powers of the Elders. Despite employing Haki, he couldn’t replicate what Joy Boy achieved with his Haki. This implies that Luffy needs more development when it comes to Haki, which might occur in the Elbaf Arc. This is due to the fact that Elbaf will primarily focus on Shanks, a character known for his mastery of Haki and one of the most skilled users shown so far in the story.

Emet, I’ll seal my strongest Haki inside of you! – Joy Boy

More recently, Shanks managed to defeat both Kid and Killer with a single powerful strike of his sword. Although this feat doesn’t quite reach the level of the Haki that Joy Boy possessed, it surpasses Luffy’s abilities significantly. Shanks could guide and instruct Luffy on how to enhance his own Haki further. It is worth noting that Shanks has not yet displayed the full extent of his Haki capabilities. While many fans, as well as characters in the story like Dorry and Brogy, believe that Joy Boy’s Haki was unparalleled, it’s possible that Shanks possesses a similar level of power that he hasn’t demonstrated yet.

Regardless of the circumstance, fans recognize that Shanks serves as an ideal adversary for Luffy in honing his Haki abilities. In future encounters with Elders, or even Imu himself, Luffy must be prepared, ensuring his Haki is at par with Joy Boy’s level. Other potential vulnerabilities like Motherflame might exist among the Elders, but all Luffy can work with are the tools he has, and in this case, it’s his mastery of Haki that can reach unprecedented levels over the upcoming story arcs.
