The Elbaf arc of One Piece has been incredibly exciting, packed with major events like the God Valley flashback, the reveal of the giants’ homeland, and the attack by the Knights of God. Amidst all the action, one character who’s sure to be important – the mysterious “Accursed Prince” Loki – has been somewhat overlooked.
Loki was only hinted at during the Whole Cake Island arc, but he really came into focus with the Elbaf arc. So far, he’s quickly become one of the most compelling new characters in One Piece. He has a sad history, a frightening reputation, and might hold the answers to what happened to his father. There’s still much Eiichiro Oda hasn’t shown us about Loki, but here’s what we know so far.
He Idolized Rocks
The Legendary Pirate Made an Impression on Young Loki
Throughout the Elbaf Arc, flashbacks reveal a young Loki encountering the famed captain of the Rocks Pirates. Their initial meeting didn’t go as Loki hoped – he misjudged Rocks’ power and was quickly defeated.
Loki didn’t hold onto his resentment towards Rocks; instead, he began to respect Rocks’s drive to become King of the World. Meeting Rocks only made Loki, who was already a loner, feel even more frustrated that he wasn’t old enough to join his crew.
Loki’s Feelings For Lola
Even Loki has a Soft Spot When it comes to Love
Loki doesn’t seem like the romantic type, based on what we’ve seen. However, it appears even he has a softer, more caring side.
We first learn that Loki was once betrothed to Lola, one of Big Mom’s twenty-three daughters. Big Mom hoped this match would improve relations with the giants, but it seems Loki truly cared for Lola. It’s easy to imagine how devastated he must have been when she ended the engagement.
Loki is a True Prodigy
But He’s Still Not on the Level of Shanks and Other Powerful Characters
Loki hasn’t had many opportunities to show his strength while imprisoned in Elbaf’s Underworld, but he’s known to be a very powerful giant. Even from what we’ve seen in the past and what people say about him, it’s clear he’s a formidable opponent.
Loki has lost to Shanks before, and even when facing Shamrock and Gunko, he was defeated—though the circumstances weren’t ideal. Despite these losses, he’s clearly one of the most powerful giants on Elbaf and a formidable opponent. Now that he’s injured, he might not be at his full strength when facing the Knights of God. However, the fact that the Knights initially tried to recruit him shows he’s a serious threat, and he’ll undoubtedly fight fiercely when he’s recovered.
He’s Eaten a Legendary Devil Fruit
This Mysterious Power Could Be a Game Changer
We’re still trying to figure out exactly what happened, but it appears Loki has consumed a rare and powerful Devil Fruit. This fruit has been a treasured heirloom of the royal family of Elbaf for generations, and details about its abilities remain scarce.
Much of the current situation stems from the unsolved murder of King Harald fourteen years ago. Because the details remain a mystery, we still don’t know what a Devil Fruit is, what powers it holds, or why Loki consumed it. However, we can expect that its ability will lead to some exciting battles down the line.
He Has Ancient Giant Blood
A Rarity Among Giants
Loki, like his father, carries the heritage of the Ancient Giants, a characteristic marked by his prominent horns. His half-brother, Hajrudin, despite sharing a father, didn’t inherit this Giant bloodline, suggesting it’s a trait that only appears when both parents carry the Ancient Giant heritage.
Because Loki has giant ancestry, he’s grown to be exceptionally tall—even taller than many full-grown giants—giving him a naturally imposing and fearsome presence.
What’s Behind The Bandages
What’s The Secret Behind Loki’s Eyes?
One of the first things people notice about Loki is the bandages over his eyes. While they make him look intimidating, the reason he wears them is heartbreaking. Loki was born with disturbing eyes – completely black with strange pupils. His mother was so horrified by his appearance that she immediately ordered his execution, and when her servants refused to kill the baby, she threw him into the Underworld.
Considering Oda’s style, these strange details likely hint at a hidden aspect of Loki’s character that we haven’t discovered yet. It could be a clue about his future powers, or simply a way to explain his lonely upbringing.
Loki Isn’t What He Seems
Loki’s Reputation Might Not Have Been Well Earned
The beginning of the Elbaf Arc strongly suggests Loki is a villain. Chapter titles like “Accursed Prince” and “Shame of Elbaf,” combined with his statements about destroying the world and the accusation that he killed his father, make him seem like an enemy rather than someone who might join the Straw Hats.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Loki, and things just don’t add up! We’ve gotten these little clues, especially from the flashback of Harald’s death, that suggest there’s a much bigger story going on, and it involves the people of Elbaf too. It’s starting to look like Loki might have had to kill his own father, maybe because of Imu’s Domi Reversi. If that’s true, wow… that would make his life even more heartbreaking than we already thought. It’s a really tragic possibility!
