Battlefield 6 Producer Issues Statement on Bots

David Sirland, a producer on Battlefield 6, recently explained how the game utilizes bots and why they can be surprisingly beneficial. While Battlefield 6 has attracted a large player base since its release, not all players are human—some are actually AI-controlled bots.

It’s common for online multiplayer games to use AI bots, so it wasn’t surprising to see them in Battlefield 6. Some players actually enjoy playing with bots. Recently, Battlefield 6 introduced a Casual Breakthrough mode with only 8 real players per team, filling the remaining slots with 16 bots on each side. While some players find bots make the game easier and less challenging, according to a developer named Sirland, bots ultimately provide more benefits than drawbacks.

Battlefield 6 Bots Are Necessary For Cutting Down Long Wait Times

  • According to Sirland, bots are not permanent fixtures in a match and are only used to quickly fill lobbies.
  • Bots only enter a game in specific conditions.

A DICE developer, Sirland, explained on X why players sometimes see bots in Battlefield 6 lobbies. Bots are added to fill spaces when a game lobby isn’t full after three minutes of searching. However, as more players join, the bots are gradually removed until the match is entirely filled with human players. Sirland advises players to be patient – if you’re seeing a lot of bots, it just means you were among the first to join the lobby, and it will eventually fill up with real players.

According to Sirland, if you’re playing Battlefield 6 and notice a lot of bots in your game, the best thing to do is simply wait for the server to fill up with real players. Trying to play without them could lead to significantly longer wait times, and it’s hard to say exactly how long you’d be waiting. While Battlefield 6 has reportedly sold around 10 million copies overall, meaning there are plenty of players, it might take much longer to start a match in some areas if the game doesn’t fill lobbies with bots first.

It’s been nearly a month since the release of Battlefield 6, and the game has made a strong impression overall. While there’s still potential for improvement, bots will remain a feature in its various multiplayer modes.
