I hadn’t gotten into extraction shooters until I played Arc Raiders. I’ve tried popular games like Escape From Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown, but they didn’t quite grab me. Arc Raiders is different – it’s a really accessible experience, and I’ve been completely hooked! There’s nothing like going into an area, collecting loot, and then successfully escaping. Thanks to Embark Studios, I finally understand what makes this genre so appealing.
I have a slight issue with how I play Arc Raiders, and I know others feel the same way. It’s actually how I tend to play any game with collectible items, and it’s similar to how I approach acquiring things in real life. While Arc Raiders is fairly easy to pick up, I’ve really tested its limits – to the point where the game would probably be frustrated with me if it could!
Arc Raiders Can‘t Cure My Hoarding Habit
I tend to collect everything in video games that give you items, and it’s a pretty bad habit! I know a lot of players do this, but I think mine is a really extreme case. I always find a reason to keep even the most useless items, and honestly, it’s the same way I deal with possessions in real life.
I don’t collect a lot of stuff, except for things like cables and boxes – I’m definitely that typical dad and husband who believes ‘you never know when you might need it,’ even if that day never arrives. It’s true that sometimes I’ll finally get rid of something after years, only to immediately need it. Maybe those experiences are why I struggle with letting go of things. I realize this tendency extends to video games, where I can’t help but collect and hold onto every item I find.
I’ve added Arc Raiders to the games I’m playing, and it’s become a bit of a loot-collecting obsession. It can be challenging to gather and hold onto everything, but I always manage to find a way. I’ve been upgrading my storage space to help with this habit, but I still fill it up quickly – any extra room I create seems to vanish in just a couple of rounds! After about 40 hours of playing, my storage is like a junk drawer – full of items I’ve either forgotten about or can’t bring myself to discard, just in case I might need them ‘someday’.
I only bother collecting items with jewel icons because I sell them for cash. Then I use that cash to buy more storage space, so it feels like a bit of a circular process and doesn’t really make much difference in the long run.
Okay, I know it’s totally on me, but Arc Raiders‘ Free Loadout system is seriously fueling my hoarding habit! I’m not even sure if the developers meant for it to happen, but because I can use a free loadout on every run, I never actually lose anything when I get taken down. And if I manage to survive? Well, I not only keep everything I already had, but I get a whole bunch more! It’s just… perfect for someone like me who can’t bear to get rid of anything, because you never know when that ‘junk’ might actually be useful. I’m a hopeless item collector, and this game just lets me indulge!
