What to Expect From Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reigns DLC

What to Expect From Mortal Kombat 1's Khaos Reigns DLC

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that I was initially thrilled when Mortal Kombat 1 hit the shelves last year. The game offered an impressive story mode, a varied roster, and a unique Invasions mode, making it an enticing package. However, as time has passed, the content has become stale due to a lack of online modes compared to previous entries, a severe absence of the Krypt mode, and overly aggressive monetization.

When Mortal Kombat 1 was released on shelves in September of the previous year, it received much acclaim from critics, boasting an impressive rating of 84 on OpenCritic. The blockbuster story mode, diverse roster, and innovative Invasions mode provided a wealth of content right out of the box, but that content has started to feel repetitive over time.

The absence of Krypt mode, fewer online modes than previous versions, fierce competition, and the most intense monetization yet have tarnished the reputation of Mortal Kombat 1 over time. However, the developers at NetherRealm are aiming to win back fans with a new expansion called Khaos Reigns. This paid story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for release on September 24, 2024, and while it comes at a premium price, players can expect great value for their money.

What Fans Can Expect to See From Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reigns Expansion

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Adds A New Chapter to the Story

As a gamer, I’m pumped about the Khaos Reigns DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, where half of it delves into fresh storylines continuing Liu Kang’s saga in his newly-formed universe. This expansion directly follows up on the mid-credits scene cliffhanger from Mortal Kombat 1, where a towering Titan version of Havik stormed onto the screen, hinting at an endless fight during the next multiversal battle he’s planning.

According to the new trailer for “Mortal Kombat 1”, the upcoming expansion pack titled Khaos Reigns DLC introduces the titan character Havik. He aims to instigate chaos across Liu Kang’s timeline, compelling the Fire God to mobilize his warriors once more in combat. In the ensuing turmoil, Havik subjects Bi-Han to cruel treatment, transforming him into a fresh version of Noob Saibot. Throughout this mayhem, updated versions of characters Sektor and Cyrax also take part in the battle.

As a dedicated Mortal Kombat fan, I can’t wait to dive into the new expansion, Khaos Reigns, for Mortal Kombat 1. Though the exact length isn’t out yet, it’s likely to be similar to Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath DLC. That suggests we might have about 5-8 engaging chapters to explore, with a playtime of roughly 3-4 hours. This is approximately half the duration of the main game’s story, offering a satisfying yet concise addition to our Mortal Kombat experience.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Mortal Kombat 1” will hit the shelves at $49.99. This price offers an engaging storyline expansion and the second Kombat Pack. If you’d like to dive deeper into the Mortal Kombat universe, consider the “Khaos Reigns Bundle,” priced at $59.99. It includes not only the upcoming game but also the previously released Kombat Pack 1 as well!

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Adds Six New Fighters

In the second part of the DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, titled “Khaos Reigns,” six new characters will be introduced as playable fighters. On the day of release, players who have purchased the DLC will immediately unlock Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. These characters are expected to play significant roles in the DLC’s narrative. Additionally, three guest characters – Conan the Barbarian, the T-1000 from Terminator 2, and Ghostface from Scream – are also part of the Mortal Kombat 1 expansion called “Khaos Reigns. However, these characters will be available in the game at a later, yet undetermined date.

It’s worth mentioning that the DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, titled Khaos Reigns, doesn’t seem to introduce any new Kameo fighters to the game. The inclusion of Kameo fighters in MK1 has been a topic of debate since before its release, so it’s intriguing that they aren’t featured in this expansion. However, there have been whispers suggesting that NetherRealm might be planning to add more for the rumored Kombat Pack 3 at a later date.
