As a seasoned Overwatch 2 player with countless hours spent on the battlefield, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming changes. The addition of speed boosts at spawn exits for Flashpoint is a long-awaited response to the community’s concerns about movement speed in this mode. It’s like Blizzard has been listening to us veterans as we grumbled our way through those lengthy treks from spawn to point!

In their latest update, Blizzard has disclosed that the new game mode for Overwatch 2, titled Flashpoint, will feature speed boosts at the entry points when players respawn. Originally, Overwatch 2 was launched with an entirely fresh game mode, Push, and subsequently introduced Flashpoint to the gaming community.

In Season 12, another fresh game mode called Clash is being introduced for Overwatch 2. At the onset of the season, Overwatch 2 will also include two maps designed after Temple of Anubis and Hanamura. Many Overwatch 2 enthusiasts will undoubtedly be thrilled to engage with this new gameplay option, while others will appreciate the anticipated adjustments in Flashpoint, which aims to rectify certain criticisms that have been voiced about it.

According to Blizzard, the debut of Season 12 for Overwatch 2 brings a significant modification to Flashpoint, a newer game mode where players engage in fierce battles over designated zones on the game’s largest maps. Some gamers have expressed concerns about the time it takes to travel from spawn to a point in Flashpoint, and to address this issue, Blizzard is introducing speed boosts at all Flashpoint exits. However, these speed boosts will be limited to 75% to prevent players from gaining an unfair advantage by combining them with other speed-enhancing abilities like Lucio’s. Additionally, the speed boost from spawn will only activate when players are not taking or dealing damage, which means it should have minimal impact on combat.

Overwatch 2 Flashpoint Maps Are Getting Speed Boosts at Spawn Doors

In Season 12 of Overwatch 2, a significant novelty called Competitive Drives is set to debut, but players won’t get to try them until the end of the season. The game’s inaugural Competitive Drive event is scheduled for towards the end of the season, offering players chances to gather rewards by triumphing in Comp matches. Wins in the Comp matches will propel players towards Checkpoints, which contain incentives such as Competitive Points and Signatures (unique BattleTag frames).

In Season 12 of Overwatch 2, the Avoid List will receive updates allowing players to permanently block three individuals who they find problematic. The remaining slots on the list will expire after one week. Given that Overwatch 2 can sometimes be quite toxic, particularly in Competitive Play, this new feature should undeniably enhance player enjoyment of the game.

Similar to what happened with Season 9, Blizzard plans to perform a “soft” reset of ranks at the beginning of Overwatch 2’s Season 12. This means that players won’t have to start from square one in terms of matchmaking, but they may still encounter some intriguing placement matches. The reason for this soft reset is that Season 12 brings new features such as the Clash game mode and adjustments to hero balancing, which Blizzard believes makes it a suitable time for this action. Players can expect to find themselves in higher rankings after these changes, but they’ll need to participate in their placements from August 20 onwards to see how things actually play out.
