As you explore The Outer Worlds 2, you’ll discover many different weapons. But not all weapons are created equal! Some are much more powerful and useful than others. This guide will highlight the five best weapons in The Outer Worlds 2, helping you focus your efforts as you journey through the Arcadian star system.
Best Weapons in The Outer Worlds 2
- Feedback Cannon
- Murder’s Best Friend
- The Oracle
- The Simplifier
- Wham-Bam!
I’m a big fan of shooting in The Outer Worlds 2, and honestly, I usually find guns way more useful than getting up close with melee weapons. Still, there are a couple of melee weapons that really stand out, so I wanted to list them for anyone who’s building a character focused on close-combat. Here they are!
We’ve put together a list of excellent weapons, but they aren’t ranked. Each one excels in different situations or with certain character builds, as they all have unique advantages and disadvantages.
Feedback Cannon
- Weapon Type: Marksman Rifle
- Damage Type: Shock
- Ammo Type: Shock Rods
- Damage: 55
- Where to Find It: Look for an anomaly rift northwest of Alexandra Station’s Landing Pad on Golden Ridge. Use the rift modulator to reveal some rubble that you can jump across and open the locker on the platform at the top.
In The Outer Worlds 2, the Feedback Cannon is a standout weapon. It’s incredibly powerful against all enemies, but especially effective against tough robotic opponents. What makes it really special is its ‘Sonic Hertz’ ability: the more damage you take, the more damage you deal. This creates a cycle where taking hits actually boosts your firepower, letting you quickly eliminate enemies.
Plus, Shock Rods are really simple to make, using materials you can easily find by looting enemies, scavenging the environment, and breaking down unwanted items. That makes them a powerful and practical weapon to add to your collection.
Murder’s Best Friend
- Weapon Type: Melee Light
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: None
- Damage: 24
- Where to Find It: Purchase it from the vending machine on The Incognito for seven Advanced Decryption Keys.
In The Outer Worlds 2, “Murder’s Best Friend” is an ideal weapon for players who prefer a stealthy, close-combat playstyle. Successfully taking down an enemy with a stealth attack boosts your damage and movement speed while crouched by 20%. This bonus stacks up to three times for a maximum 60% increase, after which your character moves silently โ no more footsteps!
Just be aware that these benefits disappear instantly if an enemy sees you or if you switch weapons โ even if you don’t actually attack with the new weapon. Because of this, it’s best to rely on this strategy during fights, and focus on improving your Sneak and Melee skills. You’ll become a stealthy and deadly fighter with this item equipped.
The Oracle
- Weapon Type: Assault Rifle
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: Long Rounds
- Damage: 47 (x2)
- Where to Find It: Found in the observatory in a locked case on Golden Ridge. You can either use Lockpicking 12 to open the case, or get Abbot’s Universal Key to open it. The key is given to you after completing the ‘On the Trail of the Traitor’ quest if you speak to Abbot Josef Newell just outside the building.
If you struggle with aiming, the Oracle is an excellent weapon choice. When you aim down the sights, it automatically locks onto nearby enemies and tracks them with its bullets, even if you’re not precisely aiming at them. Plus, it has two mod slots, letting you customize it to be incredibly powerful and adaptable. With a good fire rate and availability early in the game, it’s definitely worth getting your hands on.
The Simplifier
- Weapon Type: Sniper Rifle
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: Heavy Rounds
- Damage: 108
- Where to Find It: Collect it from by the window in the room with De Vries during the ‘Fiends in High Places’ quest.
The Simplifier is a great choice for players who prefer to eliminate enemies quietly and from a distance. It deals significant damage, maintains full power at any range, and is incredibly accurate. Plus, it has a free mod slot where you can attach a silencer, making it ideal for stealthy, long-range gameplay.
You’ll find this weapon about a third of the way into the game, so it won’t take too long to unlock. It’s the first truly effective sniper rifle you’ll encounter, which might be disappointing if you were hoping to use a sniper from the very beginning.
Wham-Bam!
- Weapon Type: Melee
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: Shotgun
- Damage: 197
- Where to Find It: Can be found on the Dunsany brothers in the southwest of Golden Ridge at the Guardian Estates. If you’re stealthy enough and have a high sneak skill, you can creep up behind them and pickpocket it. Alternatively, kill them and loot it from the body of the one holding it.
Few things are better than a powerful hammer, but what about one that also fires a shotgun blast when it hits? It’s not the best choice for every player โ it swings slowly and works best with a focus on close-combat skills โ but it’s still incredibly enjoyable to use.
Remember, the shotgun’s special blast only happens if you have shotgun shells loaded. If you don’t, the weapon will still work, but it won’t fire the extra blast on impact.
