Okay, so I just landed in Velia in Black Desert, and wow, it’s a lot to take in! I’ve played a bunch of MMOs before, but this is seriously overwhelming. There’s just so much to do – tons of places to explore, a never-ending list of things to grind, quests popping up everywhere, and all these different professions you can learn. Honestly, it’s hard to even know where to start or what I should be focusing on!
Black Desert Online is incredibly immersive, with beautifully detailed crafting and gathering systems – known as Lifeskills – that are easy to get lost in. While these activities can distract players focused on combat (PvE and PvP), they’re a welcome diversion for those who enjoy repetitive tasks like crafting and resource gathering. But the game offers much more than just Lifeskills. With 29 different classes to choose from and a vast world brimming with secrets, dungeons, raids, and guild wars, there’s always something to do.
2. Warframe
An Entire Solar System To Defend, And Hundreds Of Weapons To Master
Warframe is widely considered one of the most successful live-service games available. It boasts a thriving and growing community, hosts a yearly fan convention called Tennocon, features a healthy in-game economy with tradable currency, and offers a compelling story alongside exciting gameplay. However, anyone who’s played Warframe will tell you one thing: it’s incredibly addictive and can consume a lot of your time.
Warframe keeps you playing with its endless missions, challenging activities like Sorties and Archon Hunts, and ever-changing Alerts. While it starts with a lot of repetitive effort, the game ultimately rewards dedication. Players who experienced The World Ends With You (TWEWY) on the Nintendo DS remember it as a truly unique RPG. A big part of the challenge comes from needing to collect ‘Pins’ to progress, and farming these can be a real grind, especially when facing tough bosses.
Players will face off against massive numbers of enemies in a one-of-a-kind combat system where you control two characters simultaneously – this is a big part of what makes the game challenging to learn and finish. As you advance in the story, you’ll likely want to spend time collecting Pins to improve your chances in battles. While TWEWY can definitely take a long time to complete, even on the Nintendo Switch, it’s a fantastic game for fans of JRPGs.

As a fan, I’ve noticed that gacha games always seem to demand so much of your time. You’re constantly battling the random number generator, and to get anywhere, you end up stuck in a loop of grinding and chasing events. Persona 5: The Phantom X really embodies this – it’s got everything I love about the Persona series, but it’s combined with the gacha mechanics of games like Genshin Impact, which has both its good and bad sides.
Players will dive into a vast world, exploring dungeons like Mementos and challenging powerful bosses within the Metaverse Palaces to steal valuable Treasures. They’ll build and lead their own team of Phantom Thieves, encountering beloved characters such as Joker, Panther, and Morgana along the way. Be warned – this game is incredibly immersive and can easily consume hundreds of hours of your time!
7. League of Legends
The Path To Challenger Is A Slippery Slope
Most competitive gamers have played a MOBA, and League of Legends is among the best. Despite the challenges of ten players battling in team matches that can stretch beyond thirty minutes, every role – from Junglers to Supporters – is crucial. The goal is to dismantle the enemy team’s defenses, destroy their Nexus, and prevent their best player from becoming overwhelmingly powerful.
As a huge League of Legends fan, I can honestly say that after experimenting with tons of different character builds and actually playing every single champion – and there are over 150! – it feels like you’ve poured years of your life into the game. It’s seriously addictive! It’s just so much fun and so satisfying when things click, you’ll struggle to stop after just one match, especially when you’re winning!
8. ARC Raiders
One Of The Best Extraction Shooters You Will Find
Games like ARC Raiders are rare and unique. It’s an ‘extraction shooter’ that combines the exciting elements of battle royale games with both player-versus-player and player-versus-environment action, creating unpredictable gameplay. Players can choose to be heroic ‘Raiders,’ collecting resources to help the settlement of Speranza, or ruthless ‘rogues’ who prey on other players to steal their hard-earned gear. While exploring the dangerous surface filled with ARC AI enemies, anything can happen, and players need to stay alert or risk getting stuck in endless cycles without realizing how much time has passed.
Embark Studios really nailed this game, and players are in for a great time learning all its unique features. The combat feels familiar to games like The Division, with players using gadgets and a diverse arsenal of weapons. You can loot, scavenge, and craft almost anything, meaning dedicated players can steadily improve their power, even after losing equipment.
