How to Build a Trade Office in Europa Universalis 5

Europa Universalis 5 is a very detailed strategy game, but it can be hard to learn, even if you’ve played previous Europa Universalis games. Many players find it confusing how to construct Trade Offices. You won’t find them listed as a building option in your territory because they are built differently than other structures in the game.

What Is A Trade Office In Europa Universalis 5?

The Trade Office helps merchants build successful relationships with international partners, contributing to a strong economy in the EU5 region.

At Level 1, it provides the following effects to the owner and can level up:

  • Maritime Presence to Owner: +0.05
  • Trade Advantage: +0.2
  • Trade Capacity to Owner: +0.3

Trade Offices cost about 45 Ducats and take roughly a year to construct. They need 100 Burghers to operate and consume approximately 0.1 Paper each month.

Requirements For Building A Trade Office In Europa Universalis 5

A lot of players attempt to construct a Trade Office, only to discover they can’t build it within their own territory. That’s because Trade Offices in Europa Universalis V can only be built in foreign lands, and there are a few additional requirements you need to meet, which are detailed below.

  • Can only be built in foreign locations.
  • Requires the owner of the location to have at least 100 opinion of you.
  • Can be built in a city.
  • Can be built in a town.
  • Must be built in a location that is a port.

At the beginning of the game, certain countries in the EU5 region, like Naples, will have a head start and can immediately establish Trade Offices in specific coastal areas of Italy and Greece. Other nations will need to invest time and effort to build up their trade networks.

The most crucial thing is to locate ports, and then players can influence the port rulers to improve how they view them.

How To Increase Opinion In Europa Universalis 5

When you open a ruler’s panel, you’ll find their opinion of you displayed to the right of their flag. Clicking a button and confirming will gradually improve their opinion, but it will cost you diplomats each month.

Building alliances and pursuing diplomatic solutions can be beneficial. Conversely, starting wars or taking aggressive actions, like making false claims to territory, will likely worsen the situation.

Building The Trade Office

To construct a Trade Office, navigate to the Production tab, then select Buildings. Type ‘Trade Office’ into the search bar. When you’re ready to build, look for green highlighted locations on the map – these are where you can click to place your Trade Office.

When choosing a location, prioritize those with the best control and easiest access to markets. You can find this information on the left side of the screen before you start building.
