Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Rumored Release Window Leaves Gap to Be Filled

Highlights

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A is highly anticipated as the next mainline game, but its release date is still vague, leaving room for other titles.
  • Fans are feeling the gap in the series with the wait for Legends: Z-A, set to release in 2025, possibly as late as December.
  • While a Pokemon remake seems unlikely, spin-offs like Pokemon Snap and Mystery Dungeon could fill the gap until Legends: Z-A arrives.

As a lifelong Pokemon fan with over 20 years of training under my belt, I must admit that the wait for Pokemon Legends: Z-A has left me feeling like a wild Pidgey waiting for its evolution – impatient and eager. With Scarlet and Violet having graced our screens just last year, it feels like an eternity since we’ve had a new mainline game to sink our teeth into.

As a die-hard Pokémon fan, I can’t help but get excited about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the highly anticipated addition to the legendary series that’s slated to be the next mainline game. Being part of the Legends franchise only adds to its allure. Unfortunately, the specific release date remains a bit elusive, leaving a window for other Pokémon games to steal the spotlight in the meantime.

As an ardent Pokémon enthusiast, I can’t help but notice that Pokémon Legends: Z-A stands alone as the sole major upcoming release in the beloved series. For years now, we fans have been treated to almost yearly instalments of our favorite franchise. However, there was a significant break, coinciding with the debut of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which is strikingly similar to the situation we find ourselves in today. It seems history is indeed repeating itself, and the wait for Pokémon Legends: Z-A has already begun, leaving us hungry for more Pokémon action!

Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Release Window Leaves Plenty of Room for Spin-Offs

The Power Vacuum Before Pokemon Legends: Z-A

It’s somewhat exaggerated to claim that the Pokémon series is experiencing a dry spell of content. In fact, it has been releasing almost yearly for some time now, and the pace has quickened significantly since moving into 3D gaming. The transition to 3D began in the Kalos Region with games like Pokémon X and Y. However, fans will have to wait a while before they can revisit the Kalos Region in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

The video game titled “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” is expected to launch in 2025, though an exact date remains unknown and it could potentially be as late as December. This lengthy wait might stem from several factors, many of which are reasonable. For instance, the developers may want to fine-tune the game further, especially considering the backlash that recent Pokemon releases have received. Alternatively, they might be delaying the release for a potential launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The Vast Potential of Pokemon Spin-Offs

Regardless of the circumstances, the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A opens up a promising space for the franchise. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet having been released in 2022, followed by DLC the following year, it’s worth noting that a three-year gap between main installments is one of the longest in the series timeline. However, luckily, there are several substantial spin-offs within the Pokemon universe that can bridge this gap effectively.

It’s true that the prospect of another Pokemon remake might stir up enthusiasm among fans, but given Game Freak’s current focus, it appears rather unlikely at this time. They’re heavily invested in developing Legends: Z-A and the upcoming Generation 10. Since a full remake requires as much work as a standard mainline game, we probably won’t hear about the next Pokemon remake until after these other projects have been successfully launched.

The Best Pokemon Spin-Offs That Are Due for a New Entry

Keeping that thought in mind, it appears that spin-offs from the popular Pokémon series would be the more sensible choice. This is exciting news considering the vast array of games in the Pokémon library. For instance, highly praised titles like Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon have already made an impact. Nevertheless, there are still many areas within the franchise that could use some attention. Out of those upcoming releases, Pokémon Stadium seems particularly worthy of a comeback.

As a dedicated Pokémon gamer, I can’t help but feel that Stadium games showcase the series at its finest. A fresh Stadium entry would undoubtedly spark a wave of anticipation for the upcoming mainline game. While Pokémon Ranger might not be as widely recognized, it serves as a testament to the incredible potential hidden within any spin-off title. Regardless of the path developers decide to pursue, I firmly believe that unveiling a new Pokémon spin-off is the perfect strategy to keep fans engaged until we finally get our hands on Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
