As a die-hard Dexter fan who has followed the blood-soaked journey of our favorite serial killer since season one, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming revival, Dexter: Resurrection. With Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter Morgan and filming set to begin in January 2025, it’s safe to say that next summer is going to be a dark and twisted delight for fans like myself.

In January 2025, production for “Dexter: Resurrection” will commence. This series is set to premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime the following summer. Michael C. Hall will reprise his role as Dexter Morgan, and the new season will continue the storyline from where it ended in “Dexter: New Blood.” In this continuation, Dexter struggles for survival after being shot by his son, Harrison. While no other cast members have been officially announced yet, it is expected that Julia Jones will return as Angela Bishop, Dexter’s ex-girlfriend and police chief. Additionally, Lumen Pierce, a significant character from Season 5, is still alive in the “Dexter” universe, and there are several unresolved plot points regarding her character that may be explored in “Dexter: Resurrection.”

As a gamer, I can’t help but imagine the intrigue if Lumen reappears in ‘Dexter: Resurrection.’ You see, she was one of the characters from the original series who played Lumen in ten episodes during seasons 1 through 5. After her departure in season 5, we never saw her again. Interestingly enough, Lumen is one of only two love interests of Dexter’s still alive, which makes her return even more captivating. Since she was privy to his dark passenger before it became widespread knowledge, her perspective on Dexter could potentially be the most sympathetic if she were to appear again. In the original Miami setting, Dexter helped Lumen seek vengeance against those who had brutally assaulted and tormented her. If Lumen returns, it would certainly spice up the storyline and rekindle old memories for fans of the original series.

What happened to Lumen in Dexter season 5?

In the gripping fifth season of Dexter, I found myself in a harrowing situation, becoming the tragic target of the Barrel Girl Gang’s brutal attacks. However, my life took an unexpected turn when Dexter, the enigmatic protagonist, sprung me from their clutches. Together, we embarked on a vengeful crusade to eliminate each member of this notorious gang, with the charismatic motivational speaker, Jordan Chase (portrayed by Jonny Lee Miller), leading them all. After successfully capturing and eliminating Jordan Chase, we found ourselves pursued by none other than Debra Morgan, as we meticulously cleared out our kill room.

Debra aims a gun at the duo, concealing Dexter and Lumen’s real identities beneath a plastic cover typically used in his ‘kill room.’ However, she chooses to spare them, moved by empathy for the traumatic experiences of the ‘barrel girls.’ Following Jordan’s demise, Lumen recognizes that her own darkness has faded away. Yet, she can no longer coexist with Dexter, given that his dark persona persists. Dexter is saddened by this choice but comprehends it, and they part ways amicably. However, Lumen’s character was removed from the series after season 5.

In summer of 2025, the world will learn Dexter Morgan’s long-hidden secret when Dexter: Resurrection continues his story. At the end of Dexter: New Blood, Angel Batista was en route to Iron Lake to confront his old friend, who was revealed as the Bay Harbor Butcher that terrorized Miami for years. Given Dexter’s history with Miami Metro Homicide where he deceived everyone while working as a forensics expert, he is likely to be seen as a monster by many. However, Lumen could reappear in the sequel series to provide a unique perspective on Dexter’s ‘dark passenger.’

Over time, Dexter’s romantic relationships have been fraught with difficulties, often ending tragically. In the second season, Lila Tournay, responsible for James Doakes’ death, was killed by Dexter. Rita Bennett, his wife in the fourth season, met a similar fate at the hands of one of Dexter’s most formidable adversaries, The Trinity Killer. Despite these grim experiences, Dexter continued to seek love and found it in Lumen in the fifth season, who shared his damaged psyche. Lumen made a wise decision by leaving Dexter, sparing herself the fate of Lila or Rita. Hannah McKay represented another chance at love for Dexter, but she succumbed to cancer after helping him raise his son, Harrison.

In the hypothetical scenario of Dexter’s resurgence in “Dexter: Resurrection,” Lumen might encounter a predicament similar to others who have been close to Dexter, as they often meet an untimely end due to their association with him. However, in this potential reunion, she could find herself drawn back to him for assistance when all others reject him. Given her lingering debt of gratitude for his past aid in avenging her abuse, Lumen might hesitantly offer help to Dexter. Their profound bond and unexplored aspects make a compelling case for her possible return, offering rich material for further story development.

Lumen could potentially face scrutiny by law enforcement regarding her role in the Barrel Girl Gang’s murders if the police connect it to Dexter and decide to re-examine these cold cases. Before the recent revelations about Dexter in ‘Dexter: New Blood’, Lumen was the only surviving character who knew his hidden truth, and there is much potential for dramatic development surrounding this secret in a potential ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ series.
