Attack on Titan Joins the Japan Parade

Seven Members of the Cast to Feature

On May 10th, the Japan Parade will make its way down 72nd Street in New York City, beginning at 1pm. Among other attractions, four actors from the musical adaptation of “Attack on Titan” will be participating. These performers are Takuro Ohno (portraying Erwin Smith), Ryo Matsuda (Levi), Riona Tatemichi (Hange Zoë), and the Blade Attackers Hiroaki Shimoo, Ryūma Hashido, Yukiko Matsumoto, and Takahiko Kato. Last fall, the musical was staged in New York City to a packed house, with fans traveling great distances to catch a glimpse of it live.

The official website for the musical’s New York City production describes it as,

Attack on Titan: The Musical is derived from one of the most popular manga series ever sold (140 million copies globally). This production, an adaption by Hajime Isayama of the renowned Japanese graphic novel, merges classic musical theater methods with cutting-edge technology. It boasts a talented ensemble of 35 actors.

In this upcoming show, you’ll experience Japanese dialogues accompanied by English subtitles. Directed by Go Ueki, “ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical” had a triumphant debut in Osaka and Tokyo back in January 2023. This City Center presentation represents not only its American and New York premiere, but also the very first staging outside of Japan.

It seems likely that the cast was included in the Japan Parade because of the show’s remarkable success in New York.

Alongside characters from “Attack on Titan”, AnimeNewsNetwork announces that the parade will also include Chef Masaharu Morimoto, renowned restaurateur and Iron Chef star, as Grand Marshal, and Koji Sato as this year’s Japan Parade Leader. At the same time, the Japan Street Fair will be happening on West 72nd Street. Both events are free for the public to attend, unlike the reception and concert scheduled for the previous day.
