As a longtime Call of Duty fanatic with a PlayStation at my side, I must confess that this recent controversy surrounding pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has left me quite perplexed. On one hand, I’m eagerly awaiting the release of Black Ops 6 and can hardly contain my excitement for its omnidirectional movement system. But on the other hand, hearing stories about friends and fellow gamers being falsely accused of pre-ordering the game by none other than our beloved PlayStation Store has me scratching my head in bewilderment!

Users of PlayStation are voicing concerns that Activision might be misleading them about the number of pre-orders for the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, claiming that their friends list on the official PlayStation Store shows they’ve pre-ordered it when in truth they haven’t. Despite high anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, due for release in 2024, many gamers worldwide are yet to secure a pre-order for this highly anticipated shooter game.

Despite some gamers being adamant about not buying the new Call of Duty game upfront, many enthusiasts are excited to explore Black Ops 6’s innovative omnidirectional movement system and witness the series’ next phase. Shortly after the unveiling of this shooter, Activision announced that those who pre-order Black Ops 6 would have access to an early beta weekend starting from August 30. However, as the beta weekend edges closer, there is a growing controversy among users regarding Activision’s assertions about Black Ops 6’s pre-orders.

On Reddit, user earic23 mentioned that they’ve been showing their friends they’ve pre-ordered Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 digitally through the PlayStation Store, but they clarify they haven’t actually done so and haven’t played a Call of Duty game for quite some time now. Other Reddit users have made similar comments, expressing that their PlayStation Store is falsely indicating to their friends that they’ve pre-ordered the shooter when in fact they haven’t.

Black Ops 6 Accused of Fake Pre-Orders

Whenever I check for upcoming games on the PlayStation Store, a pop-up shows if any of my friends have already pre-ordered the title. However, it seems like several Reddit users have experienced an issue where this box mistakenly indicates to their friend lists that they’ve pre-ordered ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’. Reddit user josh_cow_man has also faced the same problem, as the PlayStation Store claims that 109 friends have pre-ordered the game, but he finds it “hardly believable.”

It appears that the PlayStation Store is mistakenly suggesting users have pre-ordered Black Ops 6, and some suspect this confusion may be linked to the contentious Call of Duty HQ app. In recent times, Activision has chosen to gather new Call of Duty games within a single app, encompassing the series’ free-to-play battle royale game, Call of Duty: Warzone. Consequently, it is possible that the PlayStation Store could be confusing players who have pre-ordered Black Ops 6 with those who have the app due to upcoming titles being listed under the same platform as previous entries.

Although it remains the best-selling video game series ever, many gamers are hesitant to pre-order Black Ops 6, choosing instead to participate in the open beta first. For enthusiasts who have already secured their copy of the upcoming Black Ops title through pre-ordering, an early access beta is scheduled from August 30 to September 4. Those who haven’t yet pre-ordered will have to wait until September 6 for their chance to join the beta test.
