- Boss fights in Black Myth: Wukong offer a different level of challenge than Shadow of the Erdtree’s.
As a seasoned gamer who’s had his fair share of battles with the toughest of foes in the realm of Elden Ring and beyond, I can confidently say that both Black Myth: Wukong and Shadow of the Erdtree have proven to be formidable adversaries in their own right. While some might argue that these games are as different as night and day, I’ve found myself on the edge of my seat, heart pounding, as I face off against their relentless enemies.
Despite being acknowledged as the highest-rated DLC ever made, Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has also been very divisive due to its difficulty. To be fair, FromSoftware needed to ensure Shadow of the Erdtree would provide a considerable challenge, as many players had spent plenty of time in the Lands Between making their Elden Ring characters powerhouses not to be trifled with. As a result, it ended up being far more difficult than players thought it would be. Now, Shadow of the Erdtree might have some competition in that department with Game Science’s action RPG, Black Myth: Wukong.
Although Black Myth: Wukong shares some characteristics with Soulslike games, it isn’t categorically one. However, what sets it apart is its challenging nature, which might come as a surprise given early comments likening it to a harder version of God of War. Given the ongoing discussions about the difficulty of Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s intriguing to compare Black Myth: Wukong‘s challenge level with it.
Comparing Black Myth: Wukong’s Difficulty to Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Black Myth: Wukong’s Rank-and-File Enemies Are Easier Than Shadow of the Erdtree’s
In order to create a fairer experience for Elden Ring veterans, the DLC for Shadow of the Erdtree boosted the frequency of common ambushes and made sure that even its least formidable foes posed a challenge. On the other hand, Black Myth: Wukong’s weakest enemies are manageable if players avoid being overrun by too many at once.
Black Myth: Wukong’s Bosses Are on a Different Level From Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s
The bulk of Black Myth: Wukong‘s gameplay revolves around its boss fights, of which there are dozens. Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree has some incredibly frustrating boss encounters, but Black Myth: Wukong‘s are on a different level. When viewed through a subjective lens, some might find Black Myth: Wukong‘s boss fights to be easier than Shadow of the Erdtree’s, while others might find the opposite to be true. However, a more objective point of view might determine that Black Myth: Wukong‘s boss fights are just as difficult as Shadow of the Erdtrees, only in a different way.
In contrast to typical bosses found in Soulslike games such as Shadow of the Erdtree, the main adversaries in Black Myth: Wukong present unique challenges. These boss fights are particularly challenging because most of them possess an extensive repertoire of abilities and attack patterns, making it tough for players to grasp the battle dynamics swiftly.
While experienced gamers could figure out Messmer the Impaler’s initial attack sequences in just a couple of tries, it may take less skilled players twice as long to grasp the attack patterns of Black Myth: Wukong’s bosses.
In Black Myth: Wukong, many late-game bosses move rapidly, forcing players to dodge frequently, with occasional opportunities for attack. Conversely, Shadow of the Erdtree’s bosses often grant players a moment of respite between attack sequences, or their attacks are spaced out enough for players to land multiple hits before needing to avoid further attacks or retreat.
In comparison, Black Myth: Wukong holds its ground against the DLC of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, though they share a level of difficulty. However, it’s essential to remember that this assessment might not align with everyone’s experience as some players may perceive them differently. The crucial point is that both Black Myth: Wukong and Shadow of the Erdtree present challenges, but these challenges are distinct from one another.
