Ever since the days of Arkham Asylum, I’ve been a devoted fan of this series, and seeing it come to Meta Quest 3 is like a dream come true.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of gameplay in Batman: Arkham Shadow, which was announced exclusively for Meta Quest 3. While the initial teaser was short and cinematic, it did give us a glimpse of Ratcatcher as the main character and hinted at several intriguing Easter eggs to discover. Later, Camouflaj and Meta revealed a story trailer confirming that Roger Craig Smith will reprise his role as Batman from both Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate.

The second teaser was entirely cinematic, yet it was announced that the gameplay would be revealed at Gamescom. Now, the gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow has been unveiled during Gamescom Opening Night Live, showcasing a variety of Easter eggs and giving us a glimpse into how Camouflaj transformed the Arkham games’ formula for flatscreen platforms to VR/MR on Meta Quest 3. This gameplay trailer also provides hints about where the story might be going and which actors are portraying specific characters.

Batman: Arkham Shadow’s Gameplay Trailer is a 3-Hit Combo of Nostalgia

The trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow is packed with a lot in just two minutes, and it appears to be meticulously adhering to the proven Arkham formula established by Rocksteady, WB Games Montreal, and Armature across their various Arkhamverse titles. The way Camouflaj is approaching this game is certainly unique, given that it’s exclusive to Meta Quest 3, but experiencing Batman’s perspective in VR adds an exciting perspective to the gameplay.

The trailer seems to highlight Freeflow combat, which looks like Camouflaj’s version of it, featuring both powerful punches and a variety of gadgets. It also showcases stealth encounters with predators, demonstrating both a takedown from a gargoyle position and one in a corner. Notably, players might collaborate with Jim Gordon and the character of Harvey Dent, who is portrayed by Troy Baker, in this game.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is Peppering in Some New with Some Old

In Batman: Arkham Shadow, they’ve brought back a gadget similar to the gel launcher seen in Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. This time, it’s been condensed into a smaller, easier-to-handle device. The functionality appears to be the same—it shoots out a gel projectile that can be triggered remotely to explode, useful for knocking down groups of enemies when fired at the ground and then detonated.

In Detective Mode, players can spot secret graffiti by the Rat King’s devotees and a piece of furniture that needs to be shifted to access their goal, hinting at numerous discoveries within each setting. At least one boss battle is planned for Batman: Arkham Shadow, featuring a showdown against Lyle Bolton’s Lock-Up. Additionally, the shock gloves from Batman: Arkham Origins will return in this game, resolving another plot thread from one of Shadow‘s previous games.
