Black Ops 6’s Batman-like Homing Knife sparks multiplayer concerns

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of game-changing equipment and tools that have either made or broken multiplayer experiences. The Homing Knife from Black Ops 6 Campaign, reminiscent of the Remote Control Batarang from the Batman: Arkham series, looks like a potential game-changer – in a good way, that is.

At the Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 event, the gameplay unveiling for Black Ops 6 featured an equipment item modeled after Batman, causing some concern among players that it might become too dominant in multiplayer settings, potentially disrupting the balance of the game.

For the first time, fans caught a glimpse of the “Most Wanted” campaign mission, where a group of Black Ops agents strive to save Adler from a CIA facility. As the mission’s tension escalates, your character gets to try out various new gadgets such as the Homing Knife in action.

As the Homing Knife nears an opponent, you have the ability to trigger its detonation. What makes this weapon particularly advantageous is that you can guide its flight trajectory even when it’s airborne, allowing you to direct it towards your intended target.

In the video clip you’re watching, once the Homing Knife is tossed, it’s your job to guide it with the right joystick and press the X button (on PlayStation) to make it explode. This feature has been likened to the Remote Control Batarang from the Batman: Arkham series by players: “Wow, what in the Arkham Asylum Remote Batarang is that cool!”

While most of the reactions to the Homing Knife were positive, some players drew the line at its availability in multiplayer: “Just don’t bring it to mp and we’re all happy.”

In the recent showcase of the campaign gameplay on August 20th, a snazzy new gaming gear was unveiled, but here’s the kicker – they haven’t spilled the beans yet about whether this baby is multiplayer compatible or how it’ll function in that mode. Me, I can hardly wait to get my hands on it!

Despite this, players continue to voice their optimism that it may work differently when used in multiplayer. Some propose an idea where it functions as a Killstreak, potentially reducing its overall impact.

One fan jokingly claimed that it would be “hilarious” to use in multiplayer and Warzone “if it works the way it was shown in the campaign.”

It’s worth noting that the blog about playing through the ‘Most Wanted’ level refers to the Homing Knife as ‘Equipment’ and ‘Lethal’. It remains to be seen if these terms will also apply in a multiplayer context.

Make sure you don’t miss the live stream of Call of Duty Next on August 28! That’s when we might get some exciting updates on the upcoming Killstreaks, weapons, and gear for Black Ops 6.
