Player numbers for Battlefield 6 have dropped around 65% since the game reached its highest point. Battlefield 6 came out last month with a lot of hype and received positive reviews. It was a quick commercial hit, earning an estimated $100 million on Steam during its launch. The game sold 7 million copies in its first few days, and although recent sales figures aren’t available, it’s likely still performing well and will be among the best-selling games of the year.
The team has long-term plans for supporting Battlefield 6, and the first season is already in progress. A major update is scheduled for November 18th, with another coming on December 9th. As an online game that’s regularly updated, Battlefield 6’s player numbers are expected to change. However, many players might be surprised by just how much the player count has fallen since its peak last month.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed a pattern with a lot of games: they’re usually packed when they first launch, especially on the weekend. Then, player numbers slowly go down over time, but big updates usually bring everyone flooding back. Even Battlefield 6, which blew up when it came out, is following that same trend. Steam Charts shows it hit a peak of over 747,000 players, which is insane! But lately, the 24-hour peak is around 257,000 – that’s down about 65% from the highest it’s ever been. Now, 257,000 is still a huge number, and Battlefield 6 is still in the top 5 most played games on Steam. It’s just interesting to see how the numbers change. I’m curious to see if this decline keeps happening each month, or if the game can keep a solid player base.
Battlefield 6 is Facing Tough Competition
It’s normal for video games to lose players after they’re first released, but Battlefield 6 has seen a significant drop in player count. A major reason is likely competition from other games. ARC Raiders has become very popular on Steam, quickly gaining players – it currently has more players than Battlefield 6, and many have likely switched over. The recent release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 could also be contributing. While Call of Duty isn’t as popular on Steam as Battlefield, it’s available through Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, so some Battlefield 6 players might be trying it out this weekend.
As a long-time Battlefield player, I’ve been hearing a lot of complaints about the latest game. A lot of us feel like it’s too focused on constant updates and not enough on the core experience, and honestly, the maps just feel too small for the large-scale battles we love. You can definitely see the frustration online, and that kind of talk can turn people away. While there are a ton of new games coming out all the time, which is probably the biggest reason for the player drop, I think these issues with the game itself are playing a part too.
Steam Isn’t the Whole Story
Keep in mind that Steam doesn’t show us the total number of players in Battlefield 6. The game might actually be more popular on PlayStation and Xbox, but we don’t have those numbers yet. Even though player numbers have dropped from their highest point, Battlefield 6 has still been a major success this year, and it will probably stay popular for a long time if EA continues to release exciting new content.
