As a die-hard Monster Hunter fan who has spent countless hours slaying beasts and meticulously crafting armor sets for my Hunters, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the news that Monster Hunter Wilds is ditching gender-locked customization! It’s about time we could dress our female Hunters in the masculine armor sets they so rightly deserve, and vice versa.

In the announcement during the official livestream at Gamescom 2024, Monster Hunter Wilds unveiled a significant update to its armor system: they are removing gender-restricted customization options.

In the Monster Hunter series, players are tasked with a straightforward objective: hunting monsters. Yet, enthusiasts might contend that an enjoyable element of this franchise lies not only in combat but also in customizing their Hunter character with robust and stylish armor sets. The armor collections in Monster Hunter are notable due to many pieces resembling slain monsters. For years, players have been requesting a significant change to the game’s armor system to allow both male and female characters to wear identical gear. Remarkably, it seems their requests have been acknowledged as Capcom has confirmed an extensive update to armor customization in Monster Hunter Rise (Monster Hunter Wilds).

Following the unveiling of the latest trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds at Gamescom 2024, developer Capcom hosted a special broadcast to divulge details about the upcoming game. During this session, it was clarified that Monster Hunter Wilds would no longer restrict armor customization based on character gender, thus allowing both male and female characters equal access to all gear. A video clip of this official announcement, featuring Capcom demonstrating the new armor system on a female character, was shared by Twitter user QuirklessStoner. As a result, players will now have twice as many possibilities for customizing their armor in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Monster Hunter Wilds Removes Gender-locked Armor

In earlier Monster Hunter games, equipment had varying appearances based on the player character’s gender. Although the armor sets had identical stats, female characters were often provided less protective gear and more skirts or dresses, while male characters had more options for full coverage clothing. This issue has been a source of contention among fans who have advocated for the ability to outfit their female characters in masculine armor and vice versa. Fortunately, this concern will no longer exist as Monster Hunter Wilds does not distinguish between female and male armor. Players can now express themselves freely by customizing their outfits with the 14 weapons available in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Supporters are guessing that Monster Hunter Wilds could debut in early 2025, based on past promotional trends from games within the same series. This highly anticipated title is expected to release next year, as evidenced by Capcom featuring it prominently in their Gamescom 2024 lineup. In addition to the new game, Monster Hunter Wilds will introduce a mechanic called Focus Mode, which allows players to target monsters’ vulnerable spots and inflict extra damage using Focus Strikes. The game promises fresh monsters, weapons, and unique features while maintaining the core essence of the series.
