Another week is wrapping up, and hopefully you’re still succeeding with the NYT Connections game! If you’re new to it, I’ve got the hints you need. Today’s puzzle is a bit more challenging because the connections between the words aren’t very obvious.
Don’t worry, I have the answers to today’s NYT Connections puzzle right here. Keep reading to find out what they are.
What is NYT Connections?
I should probably give you some background information before sharing today’s hints for the NYT Connections game.
NYT Connections launched in June 2023 as the newest game from the New York Times, and it quickly became popular. It’s easy to understand why – the game is free to play and available to anyone around the world on computers or through the mobile app.
NYT Connections is a great way to pass the time, like when you’re commuting or waiting for your coffee.
But how do you play NYT Connections?

It’s relatively simple, and that’s why it’s the best New York Times game, in my opinion.
Each day, the New York Times Connections game gives you a grid with 16 words. Your job is to sort those words into four groups of four, based on what they have in common. There’s only one correct solution to each puzzle, and sometimes the words can be misleading, making it a bit challenging.
The words are also color-coded to show how challenging they are: yellow is the easiest, followed by blue, then green, and finally purple, which is the most difficult.
It’s important to remember you only get four attempts each day. Use them all, and you won’t be able to solve today’s NYT Connections puzzle – the game will be over.

- BANAL
- RAILROAD
- PHILOSOPHY
- HUMDRUM

And here are the hints I can offer for today’s NYT Connections:
- Yellow – Think about the way someone “goes about” something, not the thing itself.
- Green – This set sits firmly in the realm of routine and low sparkle.
- Blue – Don’t just look for animals—think design language and uniform aesthetics.
- Purple – Zero in on square names, board events, and charges you might encounter while circling the track.
Here’s the final warning before we get to the NYT Connections answers for today, November 16.
