Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC Still Hasn’t Played the Biggest Ace Up Its Sleeve

The DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A is adding several new Mega Evolutions to the game, including Mega Raichu (both X and Y forms), as well as the newly revealed Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur. Beyond these, the Mega Dimension DLC will also bring back popular Pokémon like Golisopod, Corviknight, and Annihilape. However, the developers are hinting that even more returning favorites haven’t been announced yet, which is generating a lot of excitement.

Even though the core Pokemon Legends: Z-A game includes over 60 Mega Evolutions, a few popular ones are still absent. The upcoming Mega Dimension DLC has a chance to bring these missing Megas back, and currently, the only ones not yet included are:

  • Mega Sceptile
  • Mega Blaziken
  • Mega Swampert
  • Mega Latios
  • Mega Latias
  • Mega Rayquaza

Considering how heavily featured starter Mega Evolutions are in the promotion of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s odd we haven’t seen the Mega Evolutions for the Hoenn starters yet. They’re among the most popular Mega Evolutions, so it’s likely they’ll be highlighted in a future trailer.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Hasn’t Confirmed That the Hoenn Starters are Returning

Before Pokemon Legends: Z-A, only the original starter Pokemon from the first and third generations (like Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise) could Mega Evolve. Pokemon Legends: Z-A expanded this by adding Mega Evolutions for Meganium, Feraligatr, and Emboar, in addition to the starter Pokemon from the Kalos region (Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja). Since the first generation starters are already available in the game, many fans expect the Hoenn starters to be added as downloadable content soon.

Mega Chesnaught isn’t available yet. It’s planned as a reward for players who participate in ranked matches in the Z-A Battle Club during Season 3.

Hoenn’s Starter Trio is Leaked to Be in the Mega Dimension DLC

Great news for Pokémon fans! Leaks for the Mega Dimension DLC suggest Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert will be returning, along with Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza. The DLC may even include Groudon and Kyogre, with special battles against their powerful Primal Reversion forms. While details are still emerging, it’s likely players will unlock the Mega Stones for the Hoenn starters by participating in online ranked battles, similar to how they obtained the Kalos starters’ Mega Stones.

Players who want to obtain Mega Baxcalibur will be able to earn it as a reward during Season 4 of ranked battles. This likely means that Mega Stones for the starters from the Hoenn region won’t be available until Season 5.

Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Swampert Seem Likely to Be Online Battle Rewards

Initially, some players were concerned about having to battle online to unlock Mega Stones, but it hasn’t been as big of a problem as expected. In the first season, getting Mega Greninja was relatively easy – players only needed to reach rank K to unlock the Greninjite. Now, in Season 2, it’s even simpler. You can earn Greninjite by reaching rank Y, and Delphoxite is available at rank S. Players of Pokemon Legends: Z-A still need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to claim these rewards, but overall, they’re quite accessible.

While Mega Baxcalibur is already confirmed as a reward for Season 4 of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, adding the Mega Evolutions of the Hoenn starters as future rewards would be a fantastic way to keep players engaged with the Z-A Battle Club long after the DLC is released. These Mega Evolutions are very popular, suggesting the game will continue to use them to encourage online battling. Some players may disagree with requiring a paid online subscription to unlock DLC Mega Evolutions, but with Mega Baxcalibur already using this model, it’s highly probable the Hoenn starter Megas will do the same.
