On Monday, it was announced that Shueisha is launching the JUMP Next Generation Battle Manga Contest. This contest is open to both professional and aspiring mangaka, inviting them to submit battle-themed one-shots. The goal is to discover the next big talent for Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, potentially providing publication and serialization opportunities.

At an intriguing juncture, this significant competition arrives for our magazine. Notably, many popular manga series that emerged post-the Big Three period have concluded their serialization or shifted to different publications.

Shueisha Launches Contest To Find Shonen Jump's Next Hero

The JUMP Next Gen Battle Manga Competition welcomes both seasoned artists and beginners to submit their battle-themed manga creations. Each submission can consist of up to 47 pages, and the grand prize is 1 million yen (around 6900 US dollars), with additional cash prizes for second place, third place, and honorable mentions ranging from 10,000 yen to 500,000 yen ($70 – $3400 US).

The competition will be overseen by judges: Gege Akutami, creator of “Jujutsu Kaisen”; Tite Kubo, creator of “BLEACH” and “BURN THE WITCH”; Yuki Tabata, creator of “Black Clover”; and Kōhei Horikoshi, creator of “My Hero Academia”, who designed the promotional artwork for the contest featuring the main characters from each author’s most well-known story.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be featured on Shōnen Jump+’s digital platform; the top two places will additionally appear in the Jump GIGA special edition, with the 1st place winner also earning a spot in Weekly Shōnen Jump itself.

Individuals who receive honorable mentions and those who almost made it to the finals will each have an editor from one of the four judges help them with their manga. The first-place winner will also receive a recommendation from one of the judges on their book cover (obi) after publication. The deadline for submissions is January 20, 2025, and winners will be announced in March.
