A romantic relationship with Sam begins after getting an eight-heart friendship. To date Sam, you need to give him a Bouquet (sold at Pierre’s for 200g). Sam will happily accept and his status in the Socials tab changes to “boyfriend”.
Once you’ve established a strong friendship with Sam that equals ten hearts, it’s conceivable to propose marriage to him. You can present your proposal using a unique necklace called the “Mermaid’s Pendant.” Typically, the Old Mariner, often found near the tidal pools on the Beach during rainy days, offers this pendant for 5000g. In case you haven’t repaired the bridge yet, it requires 300 Wood to do so in order to access the Old Mariner. For Sam’s Fourteen Heart Event, you will also need to upgrade your farmhouse not once, but twice.
After you get married to Sam, his routine will shift. For the majority of the week, he will remain on the farm. However, every Monday and Friday, he departs for other engagements – he goes to visit his family on Mondays, and spends Fridays at the saloon. If he secures a job as a vendor for the Calico Desert Festival, he’ll be leaving for that too.
