Pokemon Card Shop Allegedly Busted with Over $1 Million Worth of Drugs

As a long-time enthusiast and collector of Pokemon cards, this news is both shocking and disheartening to me. I can’t imagine a place where I spent countless hours, surrounded by friends, being associated with such an unsavory incident. It’s unfortunate that a place of joy and camaraderie has been tainted like this.

A recent report claims that an alleged stash of more than $1 million worth of crystal meth was found in a Pokémon Card Shop situated in Hong Kong.

According to the South China Morning Post, as reported by Gamespot, a Pokemon Card Shop located in the Hung Hom district spanned around 400 square feet and served as a well-liked hangout for teenagers, kids, and passionate collectors. After conducting an extensive investigation, Hong Kong police apprehended a 28-year-old man outside the store and discovered approximately 5 kilograms of crystal meth on him. Upon inspecting the premises, they uncovered an additional 16 kilograms of meth hidden in the “staff rest area.” The combined total of 21 kilograms of drugs had a street value exceeding HK$10 million or US$1.3 million.

Inspector Liong Chun-hin asserted, with certainty, that no minors (children or teenagers) were engaged in drug distribution or trafficking at the Pokemon Card Shop. Yet, he pointed out that it was reckless and shameful behavior to keep a large amount of illegal drugs in a location accessible to young visitors, as this could potentially lead minors to accidentally come across illicit substances.

I strongly suspect that the 28-year-old guy working at the Pokemon Card Shop was lured into a drug-trafficking ring by the promise of cash, using his store as a cover to hide narcotics and evade detection. He’s now facing charges for drug trafficking and is due to appear in court at Kowloon City on Wednesday.
