According to a reliable source, a remastered version of The Sims 4 is currently being worked on. Other sources suggest Maxis is revisiting the game as well, though recent details about the potential remaster are unclear and have sparked a lot of discussion.
A survey sent out in October 2025 about the future of The Sims hinted at a new game – either a direct sequel or a complete overhaul of the existing one. The survey asked players if they’d want to be able to use at least some of their saved games from Sims 4 in the new version. This led some fans to believe that Maxis, the game’s developer, is thinking about updating the series, which celebrated its 11th anniversary in September 2025.
The Sims 4 Remaster Reportedly in the Works with More Content Than the Original
A reliable source, known as lunar_britney, recently tweeted that a new version of The Sims 4 is being developed, and describes it as a complete rebuild of the game. According to this source, the new version will include popular features like seasons (originally from The Sims 4: Seasons) and milestones (from the Growing Together expansion released in 2023). They also stated the remake will emphasize more detailed life simulation beyond just controlling a single family.
Features Rumored for The Sims 4 Remaster Base Game
- Seasons
- Open neighborhoods
- Milestones from The Sims 4: Growing Together
- Graphical improvements, including better lighting
A Twitter user named GlitchGuard90 said the upcoming remastered version of The Sims will feature “open neighborhoods,” which fits with rumors that the game will be a more detailed simulation. While lunar_britney has correctly leaked information about The Sims 4 before, GlitchGuard90 hasn’t proven to be a reliable source. The next Sims game, currently known as Project Rene, is also expected to have open neighborhoods. Recent playtests of Project Rene (in November 2025) suggest the game will have only one loading screen when it starts, similar to The Sims 3. The Sims 4 brought back loading screens between different areas, so this new approach would be a change.
A recent report from Sims Community suggests the upcoming remaster will have significantly updated graphics and lighting. It also states the game is built using the same engine as Project Rene. Although Maxis hasn’t officially announced the engine, previous leaks of Project Rene showed parts of the game within Epic’s Unreal Engine software, confirming it’s being developed using a version of that technology. This is a change from the original Sims 4, which runs on an engine created in-house by Maxis.
Many Questions About The Sims 4 Remaster Remain
Recent rumors about a possible Sims remaster have clarified some things, but also created new uncertainties. A major question is how a change in the game’s engine would impact existing expansion packs. It’s unclear if all downloadable content would be available immediately, or released over time, similar to how Blizzard handled the launch of World of Warcraft Classic. It’s also still unknown which platforms the remaster will be available on, although PC is likely. According to one source, the development timeline for the remaster is very ambitious compared to previous Sims games, but specific details haven’t been shared.
