Activision Pulling CoD: MW3 Support is Bad for One Character

Activision Pulling CoD: MW3 Support is Bad for One Character

As a seasoned gamer who has been following the Call of Duty franchise since its early days, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when it comes to Alejandro Vargas in Modern Warfare 3. After his impressive debut in Modern Warfare 2, I was eagerly waiting to see more of him, especially given his potential as a character and the unique perspective he could bring to the game’s narrative.

Similar to many recent additions to the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been enriched post-release by a variety of content across multiple seasons, showcasing new maps, gameplay modes, weapons, and characters. This novel strategy for the franchise has resulted in an engaging mix of single-player and multiplayer experiences, with several characters from the Call of Duty campaigns now playing significant roles within an interconnected multiplayer storyline.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice that in the current season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the spotlight is often on a select group of franchise characters, both fresh and familiar faces. It’s been an exhilarating ride so far, as we’re deep into the fifth in-game season of MW3. With the rumblings of Black Ops 6 on the horizon, it’s natural to feel that anticipation building. However, there’s one character from the Modern Warfare reboot that seems to have been overlooked amidst all the action – Alejandro Vargas. Despite the thrilling ride that MW3 has offered so far, I can’t help but wish for more of this intriguing character before the game’s post-launch support comes to an end.

Alejandro Deserved More Attention in Modern Warfare 3

2022 saw Alejandro Vargas making his debut in the remake of Modern Warfare, specifically in Modern Warfare 2. In this game’s storyline, he played a significant role as a supporting character. Despite the Modern Warfare reboot receiving some criticism for its use of established characters and plotlines, Alejandro was a completely new addition to the Call of Duty series. Players quickly grew fond of him throughout the single-player campaign of MW2.

Alejandro leads Los Vaqueros, a top-tier squad within the Mexican Special Forces, who collaborate with Task Force 141 to combat cartels’ influence in global terrorism and illegal arms trading. Fans adore Alejandro for his unpredictable yet loyal and effective demeanor as an ally of TF141. It’s no surprise that this skilled operator was incorporated into both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, allowing players to control him in multiplayer gameplay.

In the course of Modern Warfare 2, Alejandro received a significant amount of post-release content in terms of operator skins. However, his participation in Modern Warfare 3 was notably minimal. Many fans were disappointed by the absence of Alejandro in the campaign of Modern Warfare 3, particularly since he was absent from the storyline which primarily unfolded far from Mexico.

Season 5 of MW3 is a Missed Opportunity For Alejandro Content

Though it’s reasonable that Alejandro didn’t feature in the narrative of MW3, his character has also been scarcely present in the game’s multiplayer mode, with merely one operator cosmetic as his only appearance throughout the entire run of MW3. The fifth season of Modern Warfare 3 places emphasis on characters from Modern Warfare 2, to the extent that the Season 5 content centers around the villainess Valeria from MW2.

I was really hoping to see Alejandro make a return in Season 5 of Modern Warfare 3, but it seems like he won’t be gracing our screens anymore. With Season 6 likely being the last season for this title, it feels like the chance to bring back Alejandro might have already passed. It’s disappointing that Alejandro hasn’t had a significant role in Modern Warfare 3 so far, considering most of the major characters from Modern Warfare 2 have had their moments. Now that the focus is shifting to Black Ops 6, it seems unlikely that we’ll ever see Alejandro shine again.
