The latest trailer for the upcoming DLC of Pokemon Legends: Z-A revealed a new Mega Evolution for the Mythical Pokemon Zeraora, and it could significantly change the game’s battle system. This system already differs from traditional Pokemon games. Zeraora is only the second Mythical Pokemon—following Diancie—to receive a Mega Evolution. More importantly, this new form seems to be going against a pattern established in the original Pokemon Legends: Z-A game.
The reveal of Mega Zeraora confirms a previously leaked DLC Mega Evolution, but it also includes a detail that wasn’t mentioned in the original leak.

The official Pokémon website hints that getting Mega Zeraora in the Mega Dimension DLC might be tricky. It suggests it could be unlocked through a special event or a difficult challenge involving Rogue Mega Evolution. Even after you catch Zeraora, it might not always listen to you – reports say Mega Zeraora could sometimes act independently during battles.
Mega Zeraora Can Act Independently in Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC
According to the official description, Mega Zeraora normally holds back its immense energy with an internal limiter. Mega Evolution removes this limiter, letting Mega Zeraora release all of its power in battle. The Pokémon decides when to unleash this energy, so trainers need to either have complete trust in it or be perfectly in sync to use it effectively.
This information could simply be background detail to expand the story of Mega Zeraora and might not change how the game is played. But, screenshots and videos show Mega Zeraora actually using this energy, suggesting it could have an effect on gameplay.
Players Won’t Be Able to Control When Mega Zeraora Unleashes its Stored Power
Based on what we know so far, Mega Zeraora in Pokemon Legends: Z-A will likely battle like any other Pokemon, letting players control its regular attacks. However, after Mega Evolving, it seems Zeraora will automatically unleash a very powerful attack on its own, without needing player input. While details are still unconfirmed, everything suggests Mega Zeraora will be a special and interesting addition to the game.
Because Pokemon Legends: Z-A removes traditional Abilities, this new power might take their place for Mega Zeraora in upcoming games.
How Mega Zeraora’s Unique Power Could Flip Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Battles on Their Head
No matter how its unique power works, Mega Zeraora is expected to be incredibly strong due to its ability to store energy. The official website explains that attacks after storing energy can defeat several opponents simultaneously. This means Mega Zeraora will likely use this stored energy for wide-area attacks that hit multiple targets, instead of just focusing on single opponents.
Okay, so this new Mega Zeraora could be a lifesaver in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Seriously, getting swarmed by multiple strong wild Pokemon – especially those Alpha Pokemon – is rough. Being able to unleash a powerful attack, even if it’s not something I directly control, could totally turn the tide. Plus, they’re breaking tradition by raising the level cap way past 100, so having a teammate who can really hit hard when they Mega Evolve feels super important to avoid getting completely overwhelmed.
