The One Piece manga has been detailing the events of God Valley for several months. This lengthy flashback is fitting, as it covers a hugely significant moment in the overall history of the series. Oda, the author, dedicated a lot of time to it for good reason.
The long-running God Valley Incident concluded in chapter 1165 with Davy D. Xebec’s defeat. The following chapter then showed what happened to all the characters who participated in the battle.
This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Xebec Was Killed By Garling
The Great Pirate Was Finally Dead
- Garling received all the praise
Chapter 1166 revealed that Davy D. Xebec was still alive, though severely injured and unable to move. He might have survived if some of his fellow Rocks Pirates had stayed to help, but most of them were already leaving the island.
Lying wounded, Xebec thought of Roger and Garp. He’d wanted them to escape the island, hoping they would survive. He also appreciated that they had risked everything to stop him. Soon after, Garling, Maffey, and Sommers arrived. Garling ultimately delivered the final strike, killing Xebec.
Sengoku And Garp Have Different Ways Of Doing Things
Garp And Sengoku Hate The Upper Ranks
- Garp and Sengoku wanted a better future for the Marines
Garp was shocked to discover the news reports about the incident were completely fabricated. He was outraged that the World Government would resort to such tactics. Sengoku, who was present, admitted he would ignore the World Government’s choices. He explained that both the Marines and the World Government were huge organizations, making it impractical to punish everyone involved.
Sengoku’s words infuriated Garp, leading to a physical altercation. Sengoku thought it was pointless to challenge the established leadership, and Garp surprisingly agreed, confirming he would remain with the Marines.
Dragon Left The Marines After The God Valley Incident
Dragon Hated The Celestial Dragons

During the God Valley Incident, viewers finally saw Dragon as a Marine. Before this, many fans believed he was secretly a Marine Admiral, but that turned out to be incorrect. Dragon was a foot soldier assigned to assist the Celestial Dragons, but he couldn’t stand by and watch them kill innocent people. He even resorted to attacking one of the Celestial Dragons and a Marine officer.
In One Piece chapter 1166, Dragon and Garp had a tense conversation while Dragon was imprisoned. Dragon revealed he was leaving the Marines and confessed his resentment towards his father, Garp. Surprisingly, Garp reacted calmly, simply saying “okay” and tossing Dragon the key to unlock his cell and leave.
King Harald Regretted Not Helping His Friend
Harald Was Saddened By Xebec’s Death
- Harald rued not helping his best friend
At the beginning of the memory, Harald and Xebec frequently interacted. They first met in Marijoa, where their battle created a huge shockwave that destroyed everything for miles around. Xebec was amazed by Harald’s power and repeatedly tried to get him to join his crew, but Harald always refused. Sadly, their relationship eventually fell apart.
Harald appeared in One Piece chapter 1166, and was deeply affected by memories of Xebec. Xebec had asked for Harald’s help, but Harald turned him down because he prioritized reaching Elbaf. The chapter makes it clear that Xebec’s death had a profound and lasting impact on Harald, changing him significantly.
Imu Likely Made Harald A Slave Of The World Government
Imu Has Been Interested In Elbaf
- Imu likely used Domi Reversi at some point
The final scene of Chapter 1166 shows Harald and Imu. Harald went to Marine Headquarters intending to ask the World Government for mercy. He’d already said goodbye to his family in Elbaf and was prepared to do whatever it took. He surprised onlookers by violently ripping off his own horns.
I watched as Harald declared he’d do absolutely anything – even offer himself as a slave – to atone for the Giants’ supposed wrongs. Interestingly, Imu was shown separately at that moment, suggesting they definitely heard the offer. Given what we already know about Imu’s interest in Elbaf, it struck me that making the Giant King a slave would be a perfect way for them to control the entire nation.
