Esports World Cup Confirmed To Return in 2025

The Esports World Cup Foundation has officially announced that the spectacular tournament will make its comeback in 2025, given its impressive debut performance which paved the way for an annual series. In an interview with the CEO of the foundation, Ralf Reichert, it was hinted that this event would become an annual tradition.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled about Saudi Arabia’s ambitious plans to embrace the esports and gaming world with open arms! They’re in the process of creating a dedicated ‘city’ designed specifically for massive gaming tournaments. The dream is to attract publishers, developers, and even esports organizations to Riyadh, offering them a welcoming home in this region.

This is all part of a mission to make Saudi Arabia a leading player in these industries by 2030.

Here’s what CEO Ralf Reichert had to say when we interviewed him last month:

In our planning stages, we discussed numerous formats for the Esports World Cup. While drawing inspiration from renowned global sports competitions, we determined that an annual schedule was most suitable for EWC. This is because the world of video games and the digital realm in general operate on a faster pace than other sectors.
Our goal is to develop an exceptional stage for recognizing the top esports clubs annually, offering a notable occasion that both players and spectators will strive to be part of. The format isn’t fixed yet, but we’re pleased with how the Esports World Championship (EWC) is progressing so far.

The Esports World Cup is set to return from July to August 2025, with spectators eagerly waiting to see how it will surpass its inaugural event in scale and quality. Last year’s EWC boasted a staggering prize pool of $60 million, along with an impressive trophy system, and some of the most magnificent stages and ceremonies in the esports world.

It’ll be hard to top that next year, but the Esports World Cup Foundation is eager to try.
