Visual Concepts South Hit With Layoffs

As a gaming enthusiast with over two decades of passion for this vibrant industry, I find myself constantly astounded and saddened by the recent wave of layoffs that have been sweeping across our beloved community. The latest news about Visual Concepts South, the team behind Lego 2K Drive, has left me heartbroken. Having spent countless hours immersed in their creations, I can’t help but feel a personal connection to these talented individuals who poured their hearts and souls into bringing those virtual worlds to life.

As a passionate gaming enthusiast, I was taken aback when I learned about the recent round of layoffs at Visual Concepts South, a division of 2K’s esteemed Visual Concepts studio. This news surfaced late last week amidst the flurry of activities surrounding Gamescom, leaving many of us in the gaming community quite concerned.

3D artist Katlynn Woodward expressed her sadness on Twitter, “My heart is heavy.” She shared that most of the team she had been working with on the project Lego 2K Drive were let go this week. Regrettably, it has only been a short time since she herself was laid off, along with many others.

As a fervent admirer, let me tell you that Visual Concepts South has left an indelible mark in my gaming world. Known to many as the driving force behind the eagerly anticipated Lego 2K Drive set for release in 2023, they have also been instrumental in shaping the NBA 2K series.

“Sadly, much like many other professionals in my field, I was impacted by the recent round of job cuts,” said VFX artist Arnold Song on LinkedIn.

Approximately 11,700 individuals have experienced job losses in the gaming sector since 2024, with more than 130 different companies reporting such reductions.
