Batman: Arkham Shadow Has an Emphasis on Two-Faces Better Half

Batman: Arkham Shadow Has an Emphasis on Two-Faces Better Half

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of immersion in the dark and brooding world of Gotham City, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of Batman: Arkham Shadow has me more than a little intrigued. The promise of delving deeper into the lives of some of the Arkhamverse’s most enigmatic characters is a tantalizing prospect, and none more so than the enigmatic Harvey Dent.

In the world of gaming, as I dive into the shadows of Batman: Arkham Shadow, it’s like peeling back a cloak to reveal more about the antagonists that haven’t had their stories fully told yet. Some of these characters might have deserved more screen time earlier in the storyline, while others might not have been as central but still intriguing. One of the captivating plot threads in Batman: Arkham Shadow is guessing which characters will eventually become full-blown villains and which ones will continue their development further down the line in the Arkhamverse.

In the game Batman: Arkham Shadow, the characters Dr. Harleen Quinzel and Dr. Jonathan Crane find themselves under the spotlight, similar to how the Bat-Signal illuminates Gotham City. Although players are aware that these two will eventually turn into more sinister figures, it’s intriguing to see their current conditions as the story unfolds towards its end.

Batman: Arkham Shadow Flips a Coin and Lands at Least First and Foremost on Harvey Dent

During an informal chat following a demonstration of the game, Game Rant had a conversation with Ryan Payton (head of studio and game director), Ryan Darcey (design director), and Matt Walker (director of production) from Camouflaj about their favorite characters in Batman: Arkham Shadow. Payton provided some insights into the role of District Attorney Harvey Dent in the game, noting that players have only seen him after he’s already been symbolically and physically divided, embodying the coin-tossing dualities.

As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that throughout the Arkham series, Harvey Dent never gets screen time as himself. Instead, he’s always portrayed as Two-Face. Given this context, and since we’re dealing with a prequel, it would be fantastic if we could capitalize on the character of Harvey Dent by incorporating more engaging, enjoyable moments featuring him before his transformation into Two-Face.

Harvey Dent’s Role in Batman: Arkham Shadow is a Testament to Troy Baker’s Performance as Gotham’s District Attorney

Similar to how Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s “Long Halloween” or the two-part origin story of Batman in “Batman: The Animated Series” vividly depicts a detailed portrayal of Harvey Dent before his transformation, it’s hoped that Shadow will now spend considerable time delving into Harvey’s character. Payton mentions that this might not have been the initial plan if not for Camouflaj’s inspiration drawn from the actor reprising the role.

“To be honest, our continued collaboration with Troy Baker, who portrays Harvey Dent, has been truly inspiring. This strong working bond has sparked our desire to delve deeper into the character and invest more time in him. We’re eager to explore what additional layers he can bring to the story given his exceptional partnership and support for our project. Notably, Troy and Roger [Craig Smith] have a fantastic on-stage chemistry, having previously worked together on Arkham Origins where Troy was the Joker. It’s been exciting to witness this unique dynamic and rekindle their partnership after so many years.”

In Arkham City and Arkham Knight, Troy Baker voiced Two-Face; however, even though he’s well-versed in portraying the character’s gruff and malicious side, it’s a whole new experience to listen to his normal conversational tone as Harvey, a role that showcases a different aspect of his acting abilities.

In the game Arkham Shadow, it’s not confirmed yet that Harvey eventually turns into Two-Face, but as Payton points out, it would be exciting to witness Harvey before he gets physically disfigured. This could provide a richer backstory for his friendship with Bruce Wayne and his alliance with Commissioner Jim Gordon and Batman. However, it remains to be seen if he’s already emotionally scarred and developing a villainous persona similar to ‘Big Bad Harv’.
