Warzone Area 99 reveals origins of Treyarch’s most iconic map

As a long-time Call of Duty enthusiast who’s witnessed the evolution of iconic maps like Nuketown, Shipment, Rust, and Crash, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming integration of Black Ops 6 with Warzone! The revelation that Area 99 is none other than the birthplace of Nuketown has sent a thrill down my spine.

In the main event of Black Ops 6 merging with Warzone, a fresh location called Area 99 takes center stage. Some strategic points within this map may seem recognizable to gamers, as it’s where the legendary Call of Duty map Nuketown was originally born.

On August 28, the CoD Next event offered players an extensive look at BO6 multiplayer, while simultaneously offering a sneak peek into the upcoming chapter of Warzone. Notably, significant modifications in gameplay are coming to the battle royale, such as adjustments to the looting mechanism and Perks system.

In Season 1, you’ll have the opportunity to try out significant updates on the new map, Area 99. This map is set in an industrial area within the Nevada desert, which includes notable points of interest such as Warehouses, Loading Bays, and Manufacturing facilities. However, this location is a covert government facility hidden from public view.

If something about this seems reminiscent, get ready for a delightful twist! It turns out that the creators have verified that Area 99 is actually the origin of the beloved Nuketown from Call of Duty. Essentially, the latest Warzone map shares its roots with the fan-adored CoD map.

Among the most iconic maps ever created for Call of Duty, Nuketown is a familiar sight alongside maps like Shipment, Rust, and Crash. This upcoming chapter in Warzone invites players to explore the roots of Nuketown’s creation.

When the map first appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops, it was referred to as a setting designed to showcase the effects of a nuclear explosion in a typical 1950s suburban neighborhood. However, we now understand that Area 99 represents a facility constructed during the 1950s for testing nuclear weapons.

Two distinct features that make Nuketown stand out are its mannequins and central vehicles. Notably, the Mannequin Point of Interest (POI) in Area 99 is a tribute to this iconic location, and you’ll also encounter a vehicle with an open middle section on the Resurgence map.

At this moment, we don’t have a set launch date for Season 1 of Black Ops 6, but in the meantime, you can keep yourself busy with the traditional Prestige mode grinding session.
