For example, the director of The Witcher 3 believes games made only with AI would lack artistic depth. Now, Tim Sweeney, of Epic Games, has also shared his thoughts on using AI in game development and whether or not to disclose its use to customers.
Epic Games CEO Says AI Will Be Involved in Nearly All Future Production
Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, recently shared his agreement with a post on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting that platforms like Steam shouldn’t require an “Made with AI” label. He explained that while identifying AI-generated content might be useful for art exhibits to clarify who created it, and for licensing marketplaces to ensure clarity about rights, it’s unnecessary for general digital storefronts.
Tim Sweeney argued that requiring labels for AI use in games doesn’t make sense, as AI will likely be a part of almost all game development going forward. When someone suggested customers have a right to know about AI involvement, Sweeney sarcastically responded by questioning where to draw the line, saying, “Should we also require developers to disclose their shampoo brand? Customers deserve to know, right?”
Why limit the discussion to AI? It feels like we could start requiring developers to disclose all sorts of personal details – like what shampoo they use! People seem to think customers deserve to know everything, which is a bit much.

Activision, the company behind Call of Duty, recently faced criticism from gamers for using AI to create in-game calling cards for their upcoming Black Ops 7. The issue gained significant attention, even prompting a statement from US Congressman Ro Khanna, who argued that rules are needed to stop companies from using AI to cut jobs and increase profits.
