How big is Area 99 map in Warzone? Size compared to Rebirth Island, Verdansk & more

As a seasoned Call of Duty Warzone player with thousands of hours under my belt, I must say that the upcoming Area 99 map has piqued my interest. Having traversed through Al Mazrah, Caldera, Verdansk, and many more, it’s fascinating to see how the developers are revisiting one of the series’ most iconic locations – Nuketown – in a new light for Warzone.

At Call of Duty Next, we were able to take a detailed peek into the new Warzone map, Area 99, before it’s set to debut in Black Ops 6 Season 1. However, you may find yourself curious about how its size compares to that of other maps within the game.

The newest Resurgence map delves into the origins of Nuketown, a highly recognized spot in the entire Call of Duty franchise. It encompasses various points of interest like Nuketown Shipping and Mannequin Assembly, however, some gamers have raised issues about its size.

So, here’s everything we know about the size of Area 99 and how it compares to other Warzone maps.

Area 99 map size in Warzone

The developers at the Call of Duty Next livestream indicated that Area 99 is going to be approximately as large as Rebirth Island. Although we don’t have an exact measurement, it will resemble the original Resurgence map, which is estimated to span around 152,865 square meters.

In Resurgence mode, players jump right into the heat of battle without prolonged periods between combat encounters, as these maps are designed to be more condensed than the main Battle Royale arenas. Brittant Beildleman, the Lead Level Designer, stated that the objective of Area 99 is to incorporate the rapid and intense gameplay reminiscent of Nuketown into Warzone, which also accounts for its smaller dimensions.

In essence, though it shares the same scale as Rebirth, the fresh map boasts numerous skyscrapers for additional height, creating a more intricate vertical layout. Moreover, the central Reactor plunges deep beneath the ground and links to an extensive tunnel system, giving the impression of great density even within its compact space.

How big is Area 99 compared to other Warzone maps?

  1. Al Mazrah (7,095,838 m²)
  2. Caldera (6,405,025 m²)
  3. Verdansk (5,835,157 m²)
  4. Urzikstan (5,676,670 m²)
  5. Vondel (2,457,056 m²)
  6. Fortune’s Keep (240,790 m²)
  7. Ashika Island (222,002 m²)
  8. Area 99 (TBC)
  9. Rebirth Island (152,865 m²)

According to Warzone expert JGOD’s map size calculations, Area 99 might end up being either the smallest or the second-smallest map in the game so far. Since Rebirth Island is currently the smallest, if the new map is indeed of similar size, it could potentially rank as the smallest or just slightly larger than the current smallest one when it gets released.

It’s unlikely that Rebirth will match the size or feel of maps like Ashika Island, Fortune’s Keep, and Vondel from Resurgence, as these larger maps are noticeably bigger than Rebirth. Among them, Vondel stands out as the largest Resurgence map ever created, offering a Battle Royale-like experience in its compact space.

In comparison to maps like Verdansk, Al Mazrah, or Urzikstan, the new map will not be as expansive. These larger maps are designed to provide a unique gaming experience, while Battle Royale needs more space to accommodate multiple players in each match and allow for some breathing room between battles. Essentially, Resurgence is focused on rapid action, whereas Battle Royale requires a slower pace.

It’s important to point out that the developers haven’t publicly disclosed the exact dimensions of each map. As such, the sizes provided earlier serve as approximate measurements. Still, these approximations offer us a decent sense of how expansive Area 99 might be.

In Warzone’s upcoming update along with Black Ops 6, this fresh map won’t be the sole enhancement. Expect numerous improvements in user experience and the abandonment of the backpack looting system as well.
