The original Tomb Raider games were among the first to bring the feel of an Indiana Jones movie to video games. While they featured exciting settings, they lacked constant, fast-paced action – something the 2013 game aimed to improve.

Okay, so the new Tomb Raider felt totally different – it played a lot more like Uncharted, which I actually loved! Lara Croft was constantly in danger, not just from puzzles, but from actual people and wild animals, making the fights way more intense. Even though the whole game takes place on one island, it never felt small. I was constantly running from collapsing tombs, barely escaping plane crashes, and fighting off tons of bad guys in these crazy little towns. It was a non-stop thrill ride!

God Of War 3

Climbing Olympus

God of War 3 beautifully concludes the original God of War trilogy, delivering a strong beginning and ending. The game opens with Kratos and Gaia attempting to climb Mount Olympus, facing opposition from other gods and titans who are determined to halt their uprising.

The scope of this game was huge on the PlayStation 3, and it still feels grand today, especially considering all the detailed areas on Mount Olympus. The boss fights are particularly well-done, requiring players to use strategy and figure out how to defeat powerful gods, rather than just relying on button-mashing.

BioShock Infinite

Okay, so the way they’ve connected all the floating cities with railways is seriously awesome – it creates these insane combat scenarios. You’re dealing with mechanical monsters, super-fast chases, and then Elizabeth’s powers come into play, which honestly, unlock some really mind-blowing stuff later on. Trust me, BioShock Infinite constantly throws surprises at you and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Resident Evil Village

The Metal Gear Of Eastern Europe

The Resident Evil games are often a bit silly and dramatic, but Resident Evil Village really leaned into that. It felt like a tribute to the entire series, with each major boss living in a location clearly inspired by older Resident Evil titles, all set in a mysterious part of Europe.

The game starts in a village reminiscent of the one in Resident Evil 4, and the imposing castle feels similar to the Spencer Mansion from the original Resident Evil. Though not directly connected, the environment is beautifully designed. The bosses are also incredibly memorable and full of character, much like those found in Metal Gear games.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 is a quick and exciting shooter, but it doesn’t feature large, open battlefields. Instead, the fights between soldiers and giant mechs happen in smaller areas, which keeps the action focused and the pace fast throughout the game’s campaign.

Most games don’t let you swing through huge warehouses packed with buildings, then suddenly pilot a giant mech and battle other players. Like BioShock Infinite, Titanfall 2 has one truly amazing moment that stands out, but it would be a spoiler to reveal what it is.

Split Fiction offers incredibly varied gameplay, jumping between fantastical worlds with dragons and futuristic landscapes filled with high-speed chases, reminiscent of Tron. It doesn’t shy away from bizarre moments – you might even find yourself rolling around as a hot dog! – and things only get more unpredictable from there. You’ll never feel stuck in a rut because the game constantly introduces new and surprising ideas.

Psychonauts 2

Nights Into Dreams

Similar to the first Psychonauts, the sequel benefits from its creative concept centered around dreams and the human mind. The game follows Raz, who is now a trained agent for a secret organization dedicated to exploring and safeguarding people’s inner thoughts.

The game features incredibly varied levels and abilities, even switching between realistic 3D graphics and a vibrant, anime-inspired art style. While Mario is famous for defining the platforming genre, Psychonauts 2 and its creator, Double Fine, demonstrate that Nintendo isn’t the only studio capable of innovative and imaginative platforming games.
