Remedy Partners With Annapurna To Bring Control and Alan Wake To Film and Television

As a seasoned gamer with decades of immersive experiences under my belt, I am beyond thrilled about this strategic partnership between Remedy Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures. The thought of seeing Control 2 and Alan Wake brought to life through live-action adaptations is nothing short of a dream come true.

In simple terms, Remedy Entertainment has formed a strategic alliance with Annapurna Pictures. The main objective is for Annapurna to cover half of the development costs for the upcoming game, Control 2. This partnership also grants Annapurna the rights to produce live-action adaptations of both Control and Alan Wake series, which they will develop under their own production.

More Adaptations

Translating Alan Wake and Control into live-action adaptations seems fitting, given that the Alan Wake series has a substantial amount of live-action scenes, especially with the upcoming 2023 release of Alan Wake 2.

Speaking on the deal, Megan Ellison, the CEO of Annapurna, said:

Our vision for storytelling’s future lies in blending gaming, cinema, and television in a harmonious way. This collaboration will open up fresh avenues to breathe life into these narratives. Utilizing Remedy’s groundbreaking narrative styles and immersive environments, we can challenge the norms of how tales are crafted and enjoyed across different platforms.

In this arrangement, Remedy Entertainment stands to receive a bigger portion of the earnings from future game launches, mainly Control 2, whereas Annapurna Interactive will gain more profits from any associated audiovisual projects.

Remedy’s CEO, Tero Virtala, said:

Forming this strategic alliance with Annapurna is a significant achievement and a thrilling prospect for us. We believe Annapurna understands our enthusiasm for our intellectual properties (IPs) and the realms we’ve built. With acclaimed films like Zero Dark Thirty and games such as Stray, Annapurna’s versatile experience in film, television, and video games makes them a perfect fit for us. This contract enables us to create Control 2 to its full potential, venture into self-publishing selected titles, and extend our franchises across various mediums.

Is there a consensus among us that there should be an increase in the number of live-action movies based on video game series, or would it be better if the pace slowed down a bit?
