Everyone is watching My Hero Academia as the final season airs. Season 8 has been amazing, and each new episode is getting some of the highest ratings the show has ever seen.
While My Hero Academia is a fantastic anime, there are several other shows that are equally deserving of praise. It’s not meant to diminish My Hero‘s quality – it’s definitely one of the best anime of recent years – but these other series could arguably be even better.
Chainsaw Man
The Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc movie was a huge success in theaters, earning over $40 million in North America and more than $131 million worldwide. It’s a fantastic time to be a fan of the series, as it continues to grow in popularity.
Knowing that MAPPA is producing the anime gives you confidence in its quality. It’s visually spectacular and features a complex story that goes beyond what most action-adventure anime offer. Considering the movie’s success, the future looks promising for fans of Chainsaw Man.
Mashle: Magic and Muscles
Many people first discovered Mashle: Magic and Muscles thanks to the incredibly popular opening song, “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born,” by Creepy Nuts. However, the show itself is genuinely enjoyable, particularly if you’re a fan of fantasy series.
There are similarities to My Hero Academia – like Mash being born without magic, similar to how Deku started the series without a quirk. However, Mashle focuses more on humor. If you enjoy comedy and a lighthearted story, this anime is definitely worth checking out.
One Piece
When people talk about the best shonen anime, One Piece always comes up. After more than 25 years, it remains the benchmark for the entire genre.
Eiichiro Oda has created a remarkably detailed and engaging world in One Piece, populated with a huge cast of supporting characters who are just as well-developed as the main heroes. With the manga and anime continuing to thrive, and Oda constantly surprising and captivating his audience, it’s a truly exceptional and hard-to-top series.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Hirohiko Araki’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has been going strong for almost forty years, and the key to its lasting appeal is Araki’s willingness to innovate. He’s always experimenting with new storytelling techniques and artistic styles. The series centers around the Joestar family and their multi-generational adventures. It’s a fantastic premise that Araki fully explores, with each story arc featuring a new member of the Joestar lineage in the leading role.
While the first two parts are well-regarded, the series truly found its footing with Part 3, Stardust Crusaders. This installment famously introduced the concept of Stands, which became a defining feature of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and a fan favorite. If you’re looking for a lengthy anime with rich storytelling, memorable characters, and incredible moments, JoJo’s is definitely worth checking out.
Noragami
It’s been ten years since the second season of Noragami came out, and fans are still hoping for a third season. While a continuation seems unlikely, that doesn’t diminish how enjoyable the first two seasons were.
Noragami centers around Yato, a minor god who hopes to become incredibly popular. His life changes when Hiyori Iki, a normal middle school student, accidentally saves him from an accident, causing her spirit to become separated from her body. Together, Yato, his new partner Yukine, and Hiyori work to fix the situation and help Yato gain more followers by completing various requests. Interestingly, the anime was created by Bones, the studio known for My Hero Academia, leading fans to hope for a third season of Noragami once Bones finishes its current projects.
Mob Psycho 100
Many anime fans are familiar with One-Punch Man, another series by the same creator. However, Mob Psycho 100 is equally excellent, and some even consider it to be superior.
Much of the humor in One-Punch Man comes from its main character, Saitama, being so strong he easily defeats even the most dangerous enemies. Mob Psycho 100 also features an incredibly powerful protagonist, Mob, but the show takes a different approach. While Saitama’s power is the source of the comedy, Mob Psycho 100 focuses more on Mob’s personal growth – how he becomes more confident and strengthens his relationships with others.
Dandadan
Both Dandadan and My Hero Academia are strong contenders for anime of the year. Now that season 2 of Dandadan has finished and season 3 is coming soon, it’s a great time to start watching!
Dandadan is an anime that centers around Okarun, a solitary guy, and Momo Ayase, a popular girl, who find themselves caught up in strange, otherworldly events. The characters are fantastic, and the connection between Okarun and Momo really drives the story. Plus, the animation is stunning – it’s easily one of the most visually impressive anime of the last few years, thanks to the incredible work of Science Saru.
