Linus Tech Tips Thinks the Steam Machine Price Will be Around $700

Linus Tech Tips recently published a video analyzing the hardware costs of the upcoming Steam Machine. Their findings suggest the console will likely be more expensive than many online predictions.

Linus Tech Tips reports that the cost of components at their lowest price point was about $602, but prices have jumped considerably in recent months – up 50% to around $900.

Linus Tech Tips correctly noted that these prices are for well-known brands, but they estimate a retail cost of about $813. Because Valve sells directly to customers, they don’t have to factor in the usual 10% markup from retailers.

So, the key question is how much money Valve aims to make from each Steam Deck console. Unlike most console makers who initially prioritize building a user base – sometimes even selling consoles at a loss – Valve seems to be focusing on profit from the hardware itself, alongside subscriptions and games.

Steam Machine Will Cost $700?

Linus Tech Tips estimates the Steam Machine will likely cost around $699, assuming current hardware prices stay the same. They also suggest a maximum price of $800 if hardware costs continue to increase as rapidly as they have been. This price point could be difficult to justify, especially considering the PlayStation 5 is currently available for $399.

And remember… This is for a model with a 500GB SSD… Not 1TB / 2TB.

You can watch Linus Tech Tips’ full analysis and breakdown below:

I suspect the Steam Machine might be a bit expensive. I’d guess the 512GB model will cost around $799 to $849, and the 2TB version around $999. However, I’m not very good at predicting prices, so this could be off.
