Though the small Australian studio has only created two games so far, both have been incredibly popular. Despite many fans hoping for a direct sequel to Hollow Knight: Silksong, it appears their third game could explore a completely new setting.

As a huge fan of Hollow Knight, the wait for a sequel felt like forever – eight years, in fact! It makes me wonder how long we’ll be waiting for a potential third game. Team Cherry Says It Wants to Make Games Outside the Hollow Knight Universe

Team Cherry, the developers of Hollow Knight, have expressed interest in creating games beyond that universe. In a recent Bloomberg interview, co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen explained they don’t want to be known only for Hollow Knight, and they have plans for other titles. While they’re currently focused on the Silksong DLC, they hinted at future projects. Team Cherry is typically secretive about its plans, especially following the lengthy development period with no news about Silksong, but it appears they already have ideas for what’s next.

Gibson explained that future games from the studio might still feel familiar, even if they aren’t direct Hollow Knight sequels. He mentioned that players can likely still expect to explore large worlds and battle challenging bosses. However, the team is also interested in trying out new ideas and different types of games. They aren’t completely moving away from the Hollow Knight series, though. Gibson confirmed the developers still enjoy working on it, and Team Cherry has hinted at a possible third Hollow Knight game, though it wouldn’t be a traditional sequel.

Team Cherry has set a very high standard for itself with its past successes. The original Hollow Knight is now considered a classic by many, and Silksong briefly held the title of the highest-rated game ever. While it may be a while before we hear about their next project, Team Cherry is definitely continuing to create games.
