How to Save Your Game in Visions of Mana

As someone who grew up playing classic JRPGs and has spent countless hours navigating pixelated landscapes, I find myself right at home with Visions of Mana. The manual saving mechanic is a throwback to the golden age of gaming, adding an extra layer of strategy and anticipation that’s both exciting and nostalgic.

In Visions of Mana, you’ll observe that the game doesn’t autosave as you explore. Instead, it follows the traditional style of JRPGs, requiring you to manually save your progress. Unfortunately, there’s no option to pause and save at any moment you desire. Here’s how to save your game in Visions of Mana:

During your journey, you’ll observe a distant cluster of glistening particles. These particles tend to gather near roads, frequently appearing prior to significant events such as plot twists or battles. In any given area, there can be anywhere from one to three of these shimmering spots (based on our observations). These sparkling specks are referred to as Meridians. Just like in Elden Ring and Black Myth: Wukong, you need to approach each one and interact with it if you aim to save your game in Visions of Mana.

Whenever you decide to store your game, you’ll observe that there are ten spots for saving your game. You may opt to replace the current save file, erase a saved file, or update an existing one in order to preserve your advancement separately across multiple gaming sessions.

With Meridians, not only can you save your progress, but it also provides a quick means of traveling from one activated location to another.

Does Visions of Mana Autosave?

In Visions of Mana, the game automatically saves your progress at regular moments, usually before a major story battle, as you enter a new location, or when you log out. To make sure the game is saving accurately, pay attention to your screen for a spinning emblem. This symbol signifies that an autosave file is being generated to record your advancement.

The following time you launch your game, you have the option to pick the autosave over your custom one. This system is ideal for instances where power goes out or you need to abruptly end the gameplay!

In a game like Visions of Mana, with its array of main and sidekick characters, you might expect cooperative play to be an option. But, just to clarify, am I the one who has to figure out if my gaming pals can join me on this adventure?
